One of the best times is right after the youth day hunt I always run my dogs Sunday morning after the hunt. Going to try to get my son to hunt Saturday afternoon so I can run him Saturday and Sunday

The week after youth day(11/3) is open for hunting the leftover pheasant. Youths only. I'm sure I'll have my boys out there after school. Probably at Winslow.

I went to Glassboro last Monday around 4:00 pm just to give the dog (Springer Spaniel 1 year old) a run and work on her recall. Didn't get much field training in over the hot and rainy months. I have her on a 50 foot check chord and have been gradually turning her loose. So we were at the training area and she was in the fields for 45 minutes small field and large and in the brush a bit. Loaded her in the car and started back and just up the road was a chukar standing in the middle. The dog hasn't seen a live chukar before, found a dead one about 10 days back. So I let her out off her line and she eventually saw the chukar and she started for it but there was one on the side of the road that she turned to and flushed. Just then a deer ran across the road about 30 yards up. She saw the deer and took off after it. I blew on the whistle for her recall and she came running back. Thought she was a goner and I would have to do some hunting. So training is paying off. She still might be a candidate for an E-collar but we will see. She is starting to pay attention and is not as distracted as a few months ago. I'm going to run her this Sunday to see if she picks up any pheasants. That scent she knows.
