It is not that involved ....if it is a new gasket it will hold nice against the carb ring but if not new it will have a tiny bit of play and doesn't hold well on carb ring... silicone grease will seat better in carb bowl because it is slightly bigger from age of gasket....if he chooses to buy new ,you are correct and is correct way to do it but this wasn't the case.....done plenty in 30 plus years and never a leak....welcome to site........

If it has a tiny bit of play it is the wrong size/part for that carburetor, do not use silicone to make it work.

Good luck with your business...this guy was in a jam and did not have a new gasket....and from what i can tell the gasket slipped during install... you know engine work..you will also know rubber gaskets if wet expand and dry or dry rotted gaskets shrink also temp comes into the factor...silicone grease to hold in place hurts nothing, just like you seal a rubber oil ring to be seated on all applications with a little lubricant ...like i said a little to just hold gasket from moving during bowl installation...In a snow storm, you do what it takes to get it running...

Hey Howell, sorry to blow your skirt up, if it's the right part/ rubber seal, you won't need silicone to make it work. Bowl gaskets do not shrink when they get wet.

Air quality has no effect on the gasket. It either fits or it don't.

Dam, go buy a new gasket! Yes any kind of grease can to used to hold a gasket in place while it is being secured. As far as gasket cement be careful it doesn't get into the fuel system as it will clog your jet. Todays gas will wipe out or really clog carbs.
