    Handgun info ??

Hi, My Dad wants to give/gift me a few of his handguns/revolvers .. I see if their willed to me I basically don't have to do anything since I have my NJ FID card just keep them and I can use them legally ... my question is that he is still alive so can I still just receive them legally or do I have to get a permit for each one ? and how can I or could I ever sell any of them to someone else ? legally NJ is fkd up crazy trying to understand all the laws. Thanks for any info.

I'm not a lawyer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night but I would bet you need permits being he is not deceased. With regard to selling them, only the legal owner can sell them to a qualified buyer.

History is offen remembered for the few acts of the great. But it is shaped by the many acts of the small!

Sure, you can borrow them until they ultimately become yours.

You will need permits for each handgun. Additionally you may legally take possession of but one handgun every 30 days. Because they don't yet belong to you, you can't sell then to someone else. Once they are legally yours you can sell them if you wish. I would view the suggestion that you just "borrow" them with great concern. "Receiving" and "taking possession" are grey areas and long term borrowing may be viewed as an unlawful transfer. MHO

Yeah, I would just take them and keep them at your house for safe keeping for your Dad. That's your call. Personally, I wouldn't be the least bit concerned of how it "may be viewed". Wait a minute, are they watching you? lol

It is not legal to be in possession of a firearm that belongs to someone else.

Unless of course your great grandfather willed them to you and your dad just procrastinated in getting them to you. Then they are yours as per your grandfathers wishes.
