As is already stated, antler size is not an indication of age. As far as guys calling for age restrictions on bucks, which I would indeed support, it's not going to happen in NJ. Point restrictions are NOT age restrictions, so why bother?

The best antler restriction would be one that grades between the animals legs and not what is on his head. If folks had to put their buck tag on any male deer regardless of size, they would look real hard before dropping the string. The same for all the antlerless bucks in January.

I agree 100 percent, if it's got nuts then it gets a buck tag. I personally would like to see spotted deer be off limits too, maybe youth hunters being the exception (slightly off topic)

You going to have a whole range of opinions. in some ways they might all be right. I hunt PA and for years they have had antler restrictions. I see a lot more big racks now then before. The problem is older dear with big racks are harder to hunt than a spike or fork. The Farm I hunt in NY for over 30 years has guys that shot anything. they cant grow big if you shoot them when they're small. The University of Texas does many deer studies. They said that because a deer is a spike , it doesn't mean he can't grow up to be a big rack buck. The NY farm gets a big bug once in awhile. Now guys are older and have shot a bunch of small antlered deer. they now shoot 6 or better and we are seeing better bucks with more frequency. just my experience. I know some guys dislike it because then they have 2 pass on small bucks , but to each his own. our NY club leaves it up to the hunter, it's not a rule. either way good luck this season gentlemen.

    Age restriction, what age?

What would be the criteria? Would a CO write you up based on his opinion?
