    Black River WMA

Hey guys, has anyone hunted Black River during the winter shotgun permit season? I'm looking to go there for the 1st time in January and wanted to see if there tends to be decent activity around then.

    Thanks

Hunted it for 3 years, saw 1 doe, gets a lot of pressure due to pheasant season.

I used to go there in the past for bow season and didn't have any success. I was there today doing some squirrel hunting, a few cars parked when I was leaving. Like they said above, there are deer but you need to go reaaaal deep and it gets a lot of pressure but mainly for pheasant.

You couldn't have gone squirrel hunting today. It is closed from Dec 1 to Dec 10. Must have taken the gun for a walk.

What area is considered deep because it seem like the area is only 1 mile wide (North to South) at the widest point?

I don't know the whole area inside and out but at least a few hundred yards from the parking lot areas or fields that run nearby. Again, I never had success there

I had success on early season or after small game, pheasant hunters can be an annoyance but still can find them around. I think your chances will improve in January when all those bird hunters are gone. Good Luck
