    Elk hunting archery

Anybody out there and going elk hunting with a bow this year?
It's been on my bucket list don't know if I missed the boat being 61 years of age.

I don't think you have missed the boat. A DIY archery elk is always going to be a challenging hunt, physically and otherwise. Going with an outfitter makes it a lot easier (especially getting an elk out after harvest) but can be expensive.

Yeah for sure the outfitter makes it easier calling in and after the shot but it's still a physical challenge...I haven't done one yet but I am hoping to try for next year but not 100% committed yet. If anything 2019 will be my year

I love DIY elk hunting. The hardest part about it now is drawing a tag.

    Where did the pic go?

Where did you get that monster!?!?! You can do a guaranteed tag and spend the extra money for it no? I did that 1-1/2 years ago when I was going to Wyoming for Elk but had to cancel due to the birth of my son

The hardest part for me right now is figuring out were to go and hopefully getting someone to go with.

Arizona. It took me 13 years to draw that tag and it will probably be up to 20 years by the time I draw another one. Yes you can buy trophy tags in some states but, I do not have $5,000.00-$20,000.00 extra laying around.

There are areas with resident population that come to the same fields on a nightly basis. Was just looking at an outfitter in Montana that hunts elk out of a tree stand just like you would a whitetail. Another option is new Mexico, some hills and some hiking but some outfitters you can get into elk within a couple hundred yards of the lodge. Would still try to to get in shape in case you get into a spot where you gotta run and gun and would stink if you missed an opportunity because you were 2 or 3 seconds late

New Mexico sounds good. I had about 8 guys pull up in the woods with a 4x4 pick up and a trailer with a winch. Loaded and gone to the skinning shed in like 10 minutes. I think I paid like $200 for the extra service. That was about 15-20 years ago though.
