I know there are some instances and reports of chasing and locking down, but for the most part the rut isn't here yet. I have barely even seen prerut activity. Next week I expect to see activity ramp up big time. Next week and the week after should be prime this year. The combination of the rutting moon and the temps finally stabilizing below 55 should be a recipe for success.

Well I hunted my stand this morning, bumped a big doe in the dark, had a small dink spike come through zig zagging, have a new scrape near my stand, got bored moved to cut corn field edge, so a big bodied buck across field working field edge, but never came to my side of woods. Went back out this evening, nothing for a while, rattled with my arrows, at 6 p.m, had a 12" spike come in and hit my bait for 10 minutes. Scrapes are reappearing, I got to big fresh buck rubs with bark on the ground 50 yards from my stand. I figure it'll get better from here on out for me. When do you decide a spike is a cull buck? When they're 2 1/2 year old spikes. I always see spikes on my property I hunt, last year I let an 18" spike walk.

Have not seen any chasing going on but my buddy has seen 2 mature bucks locked down with doe already. One buck bred her 3 times while he was attempting a stalk and would not leave her.

I had two mature bucks chasing does all around my house last week. Walked out of my house and could have hit them with a rock. Totally out of their minds. Just a case of a doe coming in early though, plenty more to come.
