Hey guys I'm relatively new to hunting, this is my second year, and was wondering if anyone can give me any general tips to hunting Stokes. I hunted it last year only taking one doe during fall bow. I know a good amount of people hunt it but is not discussed much on this forum. Many of my hunts went without even seeing a single deer. I'm very aware that it is a difficult place to hunt with a large bear population. If anyone can give me a heads up on finding a productive area, I'm not looking for anyone's spot, just looking for types of terrian i should be focusing my time on. I'm capable of putting in my own time and finding areas of my own to hunt but any information that someone may be willing to pass on to me would be much appriciated. Thanks in advance.

I agree with Hunterdan, that area along with the zones next to it get pounded just not by hunters but by poachers the deer numbers are way down. Get in as far away as you can from others, hunters can be lazy in the early morning, stay in all-day if you an

You got a doe in Stokes with the bow! Congratulations! Can you give me any tips for there! JK. I haven't hunted Stokes much, but every deer in there is earned.
Just remember that people pressure will dictate deer movement there, and unlike a small patch of woods, they have places to hide. But there are good deer to be had. Look for the nastiest stuff you can find.

I hunted it last year only taking one doe
your doing good. its a hard area to hunt. just because you see others taking multiple deer doesnt mean you gotta keep up. in New Jersey your never more than a 20 minute ride to hunt another zone. look in the digest and play the numbers if you wanna shoot deer. look at zones 8 and 5.

You can do very well in and around stokes as long as you are willing to get off the beaten path. As others said, most hunters don't go too far from the road.. Get in deep and you will do well.

From some of the comments its sounds like some people dont want anyone else hunting Stokes. There are plenty of deer around.

    No deer here. Go south.
You can do a lot more for the environment by carrying a rifle then carrying a sign.

thanks for the offer alecsZ7 but unfortunatley most of my sits are in november because I play college baseball and our fall season does not end till oct 20th or so. Thanks for everyone's input and i have concluded that I may have been set up to close to the road. I set up my stand about 70 to 80 yards off the road which had plenty of deer sign in the early fall but I'm assuming that the deer patterned themselves differently based on pressure and the changing of a food sorce. When I scouted out the area i hunted lasy year it seemed as if most of the active trails ran parrell with the roads but seemed to have changed as the season progressed.
