Looking at the H&R slug gun

    http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Shotguns/ultraSlug.aspx

Anybody have the 20 gauge? Good performance? Kills deer if hit in the vitals?

Thinking of the 20 over the 12 gauge due to the fact of handing it down some day to my kid.

plenty of guys on here have the 20 and it is more than enough gun to kill a deer. From what buddies of mine say, they are tack drivers. they are heavy guns but very accurate.

that 20 gauage is one hell of a deer stopper, that H&R is one hell of a great shotgun, I don't own one but all I hear is great things about it

20s have a flatter faster trajectory, so go with the 20

Its the slug thats gonna kill the deer not the gun, well the gun helps the bullet get there lol, but with so much technology in the shotgun slug today I would choose a 20 over a 12. If you dont mind the weight and don't feel the need for a second or third shot then the H&R is a great slug gun.

I got the 20 gauge! AMAZING GUN!
An archer sees how far he can get from his target. A BOWHUNTER sees how close he can get to his!

I've had the 12 H&R for 10 years now & its an OK gun. Most likely I have 150+ rounds thru it & 2.5" at a hundred is about the best I got. Save your money & pick up a use bolt 12ga. I shot a 695 moss. that is just sick. Yes I know the single should shoot better(less moveing parts) but the bolt really gets out there. I've even get better proformance with them both in the vise. Good luck.

I'm not sure that is true and checked one maker of sabot slugs.

    http://www.hastingsammunition.com/id8.html

The 12 is faster and flatter but not by much. If you just want to hunt deer then a 20 with sabot slugs should be plenty. Get a 12 if you want to hunt turkey or waterfowl too. Although I'm sure people do that with the 20. 20 certainly a good choice if you will be handing the gun down to a teenager.

I got the 12ga and it only likes 2.3/4" lightfields ,It was the best money I ever spent on a gun, It keeps the lightfields inside of a 1.5" at 100 Yrds, It's a heavy gun which I find settles in real nice for the shot.
