I am new in this zone, I would like to know about good fishing spots (lakes, rivers, ponds) close to North New Jersey (Essex Co), I fish from the shore, maybe I could rent a boat BUT I would like to know good places to fish.
Besides, I wonder about the nearest Delaware River fishing spot to NNJ. I have been in DR a couple of times and I think it is a nice place to fish.
    Thanx

What species are you targeting? Not much good fishing in Essex, but there's good freshwater fishing just west of you and good saltwater fishing on the shore.

    Thanx !
Branch Brook Park in NW... you are joking about bringing the gun uh? do you really recommend that place? I wouldn't like to go to a dangerous place !
About Hopatcong lake... I have serious problems finding a good place for fishing from the shoreline.
Do you know some shoreline spot in Hopatcong lake?

    Thank you !

There are several nj based fishing web sites that list all the public lakes in the state and give you lists of the fish in the lake as well as rating the lake on how good the fishing is for that particular species.
Check out new jersey bass anglers.com or
bass nj.com. both wil have tons of info for you.

Starting a bit early arent you ? Hunting seasons not over yet

Hey Mike I live in Essex too. Its early and I dont usually start fishing until early spring for crappie on Lake hopatcong. I also fish the trout season where I hit 80 West again and fish the Muskie and Rockaway river (Which is only 25 mins from where I live).

Welcome to the site! Glad to see one of the few Essex county residents here on the site.

I see a lot of yours are hunters...
I am just curious about something:
When you kill a big deer, what do you do with it?
do you eat that meat? I guess a big deer must be old and its meat maybe is not good, besides you don't know how healthy is this animal in the wild, maybe some desease. Just asking.

I'd rather eat a wild deer than something that's been raised on some farm, fed some food by-product, shot full of chemicals, hormones and anti-biotics, then slaughtered by someone I don't know, then butchered by someone I don't know, then left on a store shelf for God knows how long. I live in New Jersey, a diseased deer is the least of my worries. How about the pollution, superfund sites etc. By the way, if you are after trout, Ramapo River is a quick drive up rt17. Stocked every Thursday in the spring.
