This Sunday I want to take my 6 and 3 year old out fishing with a buddy and his two young kids. I really only know a few local river spots, but I was looking for a pond to fish. Somewhere the kids can run around and not be at a rivers edge.

I stopped at the Bryant Park pond in Summit and the guy said he didn't have bite in hours. I was thinking the pond at Loantaka Park, in Green Village might be good.

    Any local suggestions?

No fish in Bryant Park, try Speedwell Lake in Morris Plains, Nomohegan Park Cranford, Lenape Park Kenilworth, Shallcross Pond Kenilworth or Echo Lake Mountainside. Maybe Surprise Lake in Berkeley Heights but i've never fished it.

Those are some great ideas. I think Echo lake might be a hit with the playground and paddle boats. Thanks Mike.

also.. if you ever are wondering where to fish, the nj fish and wildlife website finally uploaded their "where to fish" brochures. they're really helpful and even tell you what species can be found in any water!

I live on Parks Lake in Rockaway. Its got plenty of sunnies in it and easy for kids to get around.

Small park on River Rd. in Chatham just past the train underpass. I introduced my wife to freshwater fishing there and she caught 20 sunnies in about an hour. Almost zero pressure during the summer with a nice little waterfall. You might even catch a leftover trout or two.
