    Hey all,

What's the rule concerning the use of bait on WMAs? From what I read I thought you could use it. But recently, I've heard of a guy who was hunting Assumpink over bait, fell out of his treestand, break his leg and then get a $300 fine for hunting over bait.

    Is this right?

You can bait, but have to be 100 yards away I believe.
It isn't the catch or the kill that makes for a great outdoor experience but enjoying all that God has created for us.

That's for Bear's. You can bait on WMA's but not on State or Federal Parks or Forests or in a Wilflife refuge. There's a differance. What was he hunting?

    Baiting Regulations:

Baiting is allowed for deer hunting. Hunters may hunt for deer while in a tree, on the ground, or in a structure and from any height and any distance from the bait pile. Hunters should check with the landowner, or administrative agency before placing bait on their hunting areas as baiting is NOT allowed on properties such as national wildlife refuges.

While it doesnt mention WMA's specifically, Ive always heard that its ok to bait on WMA's. Baiting on WMA;s was even brought up at the Bear Seminars, to which the response was; "Yes you can bait on WMA's".

My guess is he had a turkey permit in his possession while he was hunting over bait.

Of course it could have been for another reason, but if the fine was related to the bait. That would be the most logical explanation.

Yes, you can hunt over bait on WMA's for deer.

He was probably fined $300.00 for being an idiot for not wearing his safety harness.

    Doesnt sound like it Jerseyhunter.

I went to the Sussex Fair grounds in 2003, and Pequest in 2004.

I only went the second time because a friend of mine didnt want to go alone. So I tagged along. It was fun, its not a bad course to sit through. Especially when you can lip synch what Paul is gonna say.

He was bow hunting for deer in Assumpink.

If you could be fined for being an idiot, then half of the population would be fined.

Very true, that hunter is lucky to be alive and able to pay the fine.
