I saw some deer tracks this morning turkey hunting that were no bigger than my thumb nail. I assume they were recently born deer?

Females give birth to one, two or even possibly three spotted young, known as fawns in mid to late spring, generally in May or June. Fawns lose their spots during the first summer and will weigh from 44 to 77 pounds (20 to 35 kg) by the first winter. Male fawns tend to be slightly larger and heavier than females.

I was going down the road today and I think I saw a doe licking a new born, that was laying on the ground in an open field.
I turned around and stopped along the road and looked with my binos.
I was in a bad spot on a busy road so I didn't look for too long, But I do think it was a fawn that she had just given birth to.

There's a bunch of old cow does that hang around the house. I noticed yesterday one was looking pretty slim. She most likely gave birth

if they gave birth after this weekend's storm that will be excellent. Any that were born last week probably had a rough couple days. This warm weather and sunny sky is excellent for young fawns. They'll grow up nice and healthy for the fall and years to come

What everyone said is basically correct. Any variation depends on if the doe was impregnated early or late in the rut

I have seen fawns on May 1st while turkeying hunting in NY state, and I'm guessing they were at least 1 week old by the way they were running around.
