When is the best time to set up a ladder stand? I was told the best time is during rain or right before, that way it washes my scent away. Is this correct?

I would set it up the night before opening day. This way there is a chance it might still be there when you go to hunt.

I like to hang my metal tree stands during a violent thunder storm. Makes life interesting! Yes just before rain is ideal.

I wouldn't worry too much about scent and rather make sure you do it well before you plan to hunt. Setting it up in the rain sounds like a real cluster f&%$ waiting to happen. Be more concerned with getting in & out as quietly as possible and getting the darn thing up without getting hurt.

Bring a long strong rope, throw it over a stout branch above your tree stand and pull the stand up. Ideally you'll have some help with you so one guy can pull and the other guide the ladder. If it's not too tall or heavy, you could put the base about where you think it will end up and walk the ladder up and lean it against the tree.

I have private land, so that won't be an issue...

Thanks for the advice. Just wanted to ask, cause when I put my trail cam out, it took a few days before deer started coming to the food. Thinking it was due to my scent.

If you are hunting private I would set it up soon, I hunt private as well and already set 3 stands a few weeks ago.
I once got a small deer discount from the butcher

In the summer I like during the rain cause it keeps ya cool. If I don't have bait in the area and I'm not doing any major cutting I'll just do it whenever. You have plenty of time for things to settle back down
