    On of those seasons...

Let me start this by saying I was pretty anxious about getting out since I had only been able get in the woods twice so far all season. So yesterday I finally decide to, God forbid!, take a day off. I get all my stuff set and ready to go the night before like I did when I was a kid. I got up nice and early ate, packed up the truck and with great hope and anticipation I drove the hour or so to where I would be hunting that day! I get in, its still about 40min. or so before first light, and I can't wait to FINALLY be getting to my spot. So I get all my stuff together sling my shotgun on my shoulder and head off. Now I always keep my gun unloaded until I get to my spot. So I get there, put my stuff down, go to load the gun AND....the trigger lock is still on! And where is the key...That's right, ON THE DINING ROOM TABLE at home!!....Yeah, it's been one of those seasons.

I have a mantra I tell all hunters/huntresses who hunt with me:Three things to say to yourself before leaving home Gun?, Ammo?, License?. You'll have to add a fourth inspect the gun for locks!
(Actually I have added one to the must have list - Cell phone.)

Had a buddy leave is gun home 6 day opener for an hr drive - when there was no bow season. And he only had one day off. But at least he still had a half day hunt.
