seems as though these northeastern coyotes are becoming coywolves....

heres an idea. these coyotes we have in jersey, can be grey, red, blonde or black.
ive sen black wolves in pictures, so that could be where that gene came from,
but what about the red?? red wolves maybee
and the blonde i have no idea, maybe coydog genes
and of course the regular gray phase

I saw one in NY this year that was Chocolcate colored with black tips on its fur. Looked nothing like any coyote I've ever seen

The wolves in quebec can have a redish sandy coat. I saw one may years ago....
Remember too, that modern domesticated dogs descended directly from wolves, so closely related canines interbreeding should be of no surprise.
