I shot this buck from a ground blind that I made out of hay bales. I set them up a few weeks in advance and only hunted out of it twice when the wind was perfect. I shot him on the second try.

I switched to ground blinds some time ago and have never looked back. I've had some very good success hunting out of them...and being able to have a little heater in there during winter bow isn't too bad either

That's not nice, putting Todd up in a tree, sky lighted, while you kill them from your ground blind a short distance away.

I'm 63 and still climb trees and hunt with longbows and recurves will I say that I don't know if I can do that at 73 only time will tell but in my current opinion like a good mechanic a hunter should learn to use all of the tools and techniques he can for over all effectiveness. I broke my back and just recently had to get a fusion along with a cage spacer rods and screws,I 99% of the time hunt from my climber but I'm not to shore I will be climbing many trees this season. I will say strait off the bat I do not have much experience hunting from the ground but have taken deer while sitting in thick brush at 20yds so this season will test my skills at ground hunting But I'm pretty confident I could and hopefully will take a mature buck off the ground this upcoming season.

i been natural ground blind hunting mature bucks since late 80's. I show guys my setups and there like no way. My last camera man said he couldn't take the anxiety anymore. You can here them breathe and are on top of you like a magician. Then the patients to draw on the right body language the buck presents. Not easy to hide a camera man and yourself for over the shoulder footage. The rush is unreal and overwhelming to say the least. Also you may have a stare down which seems forever or they try to fake you out doing head jerks to get you to move. If no movements they usually settle down if the wind is in your favor. If the wind is not in favor you should leave soon as possible....The wind is the deal breaker....
