    rifle hunting test

i am thinking about taking my rifle test so i can take out the AR for fox and coyote since seasons run into mid march and maybe get a muzzy. so i plan on taking the test sometime this year. i looked up on the website about the test and it doesnt say anything about what to bring for the test date. do they provide a firearm like they do with the shotgun? its been about 12 years since i took my bow and shotgun test, just curious as to how the rifle portion of the test is run nowadays. thank you

Currently the test you take is a firearms test. You shoot the shotgun, which they provide, and you go thru a familiarization session with the muzzleloader and rifle.

The way I hear it now you are grandfathered in. It is only one test now and you took it. Go online and see if you can purchase a rifle permit. Which should be going the same way as the test but we all know that won't happen.

I was actually wondering this myself. I have had shotgun and bow for a long time, but never did the rifle test and want to get it. Would be great if grandfathered in

Believe it or not I only got my rifle permit a few years ago. I took the course back in the early 70's. I didn't have my card saying I passed the firearms test and really didn't need it being that I've bought a hunting license every year since. In the old days you just showed yer license from the year before and got a new license. I filled out the lost card form they have online and they were able to verify that I had passed the test. They sent me a new card, free of charge I might add. I then took that card to a license seller and got s rifle permit. From then on I could buy my rifle permit online. When I took the test back then the rifle portion was part of the same course as the shotgun course.
