I had a neighbor leave a note in my mail box which is a federal offense I believe. They stated they would report me for hunting in my backyard which my stand is in my property and Bass River State owns the lot directly behind me. Edwin B. Forsyth owns the land directly behind the neighbors property. Question is would you politely go over and explain this to them or just continue hunting?
continue hunting. you dont owe them an explaination. chances are they wont believe what you are saying anyway. seems like they "know" you are on a refuge
If you are in the right and the land behind you is indeed State forest land with no restrictions as to hunting... then I would simply go about my business.
If a game warden does show up, ask for a written complaint. If there is no written complaint, you can, and should simply tell the warden to have a nice day.
Let the officer go over to the neighbor and tell them there was nothing wrong. The neighbor wouldn't believe you anyway in all probablilty.
If there is a written complaint, or if one subsequently appears, that can be actionable in a court of law. Hunter harassment is a real issue that must be taken seriously, if it is pursued.
Bottom line is that if you do get a visit from the authorities, you want your neighbor to be the one that is in jeopardy with the law...not you. That should keep them minding their own business in the future.
What he said. You never know you might wind up with an apple pie out if the deal. [ko]
Two of the things I hate here. People that can't mind their own business and notes! I really hate notes! Usually means someone didn't have the balls to talk to you. Its not like they don't know where you live. Smfh
I'm bow hunting and the stand is located on the perimeter of my property with over 200 feet from nearest dwelling so technically where I'm hunting from is private property. I have bait piles that are on state land.
I would talk to your neighbor. I would do a shot of bourbon before I went over just to relax and keep my cool (just one!). I would then try to calmly explain to them why you are hunting legally; let them know you wouldn't do anything illegal. If they refuse to believe you...at least you tried. Maybe you'll save yourself having to deal with a warden later....
Try to the be the calm rational one...not the one that scribbles on ripped up notepaper and puts exclamation points all over the place. Save the note. That way if you have to deal with fish and game later, you can show them you received the note and you tried to clear up the matter on your own. You will look like the rational one.
This is a better tax map representation. My house buts up to lots 52 and 52.01 which you can see on the NJDEP website, 53 is the refuge. I'm clearly not in a refuge and am in open state land. It's all really a moot point though technically as my stand is on my property. I just bought this place and moved in during Memorial Day just so I could hunt it. Not trying to make enemies but if that's how it's gonna be they have literally 10 German Sheparda on there property that never stop barking. That's way worst in my opinion which I've never complained about.
Wish people would mind their own business especially when they don't know what they're talking about. I would make sure you have your facts and then go talk to your neighbor. While you owe them nothing, who wants to deal with the hassle of a CO interrupting your hunt. Work too damn hard to enjoy a few hours a week to hunt. Just my two cents.
Just keep hunting. Don't escalate the situation with this anti. Now that you posted the tax map, I will start hunting behind her house, so she can have something to really complain about.[lol]
The neighbor probably used to hunt the now federal property and is pissed that you can now legally hunt next to where they used to. Just make sure you don't put any bait on the federal property.
Judging by the writing I would guess they are "simple" folk. You will not win an argument or sway "simple" folk. Keep doing what you are doing and ignore them
I would take them a copy of the tax map and explain the situation. Hopefully they're reasonable enough people to see that they're wrong, and if not you have proof that your legal so there's nothing they can do about it anyway.
I would talk to them first, if that does not work, file a noise complaint with the township. Most towns have limits on the number of adult dogs you can have on a residential property.
have some compassion.they may have fallen on hard times.hit the dollar store and offer them some full sheets of paper. tell them they can also wipe there arse with it. carry on!
not sure what people are even getting mad it. The deers here are no trophy bucks. These are meat in the freezer deer which is all I hunt for anyway. I'm not a size queen just a hunter looking to not buy red meat for the year.
do they have a kid? any of the neighbors? probably a girl? That note sure dont have the hallmarks of an adults work. A little niblet torn from the spiral side of a school notebook. Terrible grammar and handwriting. Id say that's a kid. Sand enough to leave that note, but not enough to confront you toe to toe. thats a school playground mentality. I wouldn't even dignify it with a reply. If you are legal, just do what you do.
if you no your right then i would keep on hunting and tell them to go bite me.
