Savage 220 vs Savage 212 Opinions?

I was thinking of purchasing the Savage 220 Slug Gun (low cost and good reviews) for deer hunting and was wondering how you guys feel about it as I dont know anyone with this particular gun to try out before purchasing. Also was interested in possibly the 212 but most reviews I have read preferred the 220 due to weighing less and recoil factors. This gun will be used primarily from a tree stand in relatively thick cover (Shots wont be more then 100 to 120 yards and will usually be about 60 yards on average).

When times are tough and flocks are small, take your time and shoot them all.

The 20 is accurate as all heck... I used a mossberg 695 bolt 12 gauge for a long time. Switched to the 220 this past year. The savage 20 is a heck of a gun...

You are going to get almost everyone on the 20 ga. bandwagon. For what you describe, the 20 would be a good choice. For large Midwestern deer at 150 yds or more, the 12 ga is the ticket.

I've been using a Benelli Nova this year which isn't bad but the cost of the rifled barrel I could buy a new gun damn near. So why fight it, I've already persuaded the Mrs's of all the benefits a new slug gun will have lol. But I always shoot 12 and was a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on the purchase.

I have had both, and I prefer the 220, the 212 is great out to 100 yards, but the accuracy is sub par compared to the 220 which still holds a 3 inch group at 150 yards using 3 inch remington accutips. Also the 20 gauge slug is plenty to drop deer and bear.

Been shooting slugs for a long time. The 12 drops em but the 20 is plenty. In my opinion, there's no reason the lug around a 12.

There junk. If it wasn't for their actions, I would own one. It's a shame that savage would design such an ACCURATE gun around a POS action!!

I would of went for the Super Black Eagle II but were saving for a new house so that was out of the picture. The Savage had a fair price and pretty good reviews. The only 20 gauges I use are for quail with 12 gauge handling the remaining of my hunting duty.
