bologna or saloomi
I was wondering if any body had experience of using a bait that only deer would eat and wouldn't attract the bears? The area I hunt doesn't really allow me to plant food plots so I am looking for something i can just throw out.
bears eat everything!
They're classified as "omnivores" for a reason ...
"Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet."
Everything attracts bears. Best option in my experience is hanging a feeder high or broadcasting corn over a large area (20'ish). Bears are opportunistic but have zero patience eating single kernels at a time.
Try whole kernal corn but spread it around, not in a pile. the bears may eat some of it but they will wander off and leave enough for the deer.bears eat everything
Shelled corn that is sprinked over a big area. not to say they wont eat it. but they dont seem to stay long. they are lazy
Grow The Bone.. I was told by them, very few bears on camera during field testing. Also, ask oneshot1kill, he tested it more than I did. I put it behind my house and there are A LOT of bears by me. The best attractant/feed I have even seen hands down.
Guess it must depend on where you are. I saw some pics recently from a camera a guy set over grow the bone and it was pretty much all bears and raccoons. I don't think there is really anything a deer would eat that a bear wouldn't so no matter what you use it will attract bears. As mentioned above spreading corn will cause them to loose interest.
raccons will hang around for awhile and bear will stop and sniff around a bit but will not sit and eat it. I have consistanly seen 1-3 pics of bears when they are around with grow the bone on the ground, nothing like corn or anything else, they simply move on.
You can do a lot more for the environment by carrying a rifle then carrying a sign.
