Like stated in title I am trying to put a sling onto my mossberg 500. I have looked all over the internet but with no luck, so here is my problem I am having.

The gun has no mounting points for a sling what so ever. I understand I will have to tap or drill a hole in the butt stock of the gun for the rear mount but how would I go about putting on the front mount? The magazine cap is not pre drilled so could I get a new cap that is drilled? If so where at because all the ones I have found are for the 590/835 not 500.

Or is there a mounting point i am some how missing when looking at the gun?
A friend of mine has a 500 but his mount is on the cap so I just figured thats where it goes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

they have the magazine tube caps with the front swivel already attached. i dont think there is a difference between the different model mossberg caps but would check with them or a gunsmith to be sure. the magazine cap for my 870 onlt cost $15-20.

    Ya I can find the Rem 870 caps but I can't find anything for the 500, I think if I am not mistaken I can't use a 590/835 cap in a 500.

On my 500, the magazine cap/ takedown screw is a captured piece, and unlike that on my 870, is not easily separated from the barrel. It is however drilled & tapped from the factory to accept the sling swivel stud.

Mossberg refers to this part on the models 500®/505™/535™ as the "takedown screw", & on the models 590®/835® as the "magazine cap". All the 500 barrels I've ever seen are sold with this "takedown screw" as part of the barrel itself.

Mine is a 2000 model if I am not mistaken and I can take it off. it looked like I couldn't and the cap was screwed on very tightly but after some work it did come off.

So on your 500 its in the end cap?

Ya thats all I could find too, but I have to have a place to screw it in. The end cap does not have a hole in it, so does this mean I have to tap it my self? Or is there another place to put it I am over looking? Or do I need a new end cap?

Which barrel do you have? My slug and bird barrels have a tapped hole on the bottom of the ring that holds the screw cap. I had to buy the 3 dollar part from mossberg that accepts the swivel and it screwed right in.
