    took this small buck friday cut him up saturday found these odd round tumor like growths only in the fat.Meat smells good looks normal.these growths are dark gray almost blue and round this picture is of them cut in half.Any ideas what it might be ? is the meat safe ?

    first one i shot this year had same on right hind leg inside thigh area icut away the small amount of adjacent meat i ate that over a month ago and im fine

    ive seen the same thing.old wound or small growth cut it out and eat around it

    I always find them on the deer I kill. Always in the fat. Mostly in the hind quarters. I don't think they are tumors, but maybe lymph glands??

    It's not a tumor. It's a gland all deer have them, 1 is under the scapula called a Prescapular Gland, It must be removed or will cause a bad odor to the meat. It cannot be seen unless you cut into the fat. The other is called the Popliteal Gland and is from the fore part of the hind leg. One of the butchers should have chimed in.

    theyre glands.everydeer has them.dont eat them.you shouldnt eat any grizzle or fat from game.
