I've stalked and still-hunted bears, called for bears and baited bears.
If you want the greatest amount of dead bears, the best method is bait.
Just like if you need lots of dead does...best method is to bait.
There's no doubt, baiting is a tool for managing wildlife and I've used it when necessary. Does it mean I really enjoy that method? No.
Hunt the way that makes you happy. I'm not sure why you singled me out. Maybe you just value my opinion...I am pretty awesome![rofl][rofl]
Does that answer the question?
And if I don't respond the rest of the day, it's not that I'm ignoring you but I'm really in a rush now to go with a friend to pick up his lifesize baited bear mount. That baiting fool...[rofl]then we're custom building a pedestal in his basement for it.
No youre back peddling now.. youve been saying all along how baiting sucks .. you havent, until now called it a "management tool" Your attitude is baiting sucks.. please dont now try and change your tune that you think baiting is "ok" in certain situations.
I was just curious why baiting for deer is a tool for the lazy but when youre guiding someone on a bear hunt its ok to bait?? thats all
Matty likes to do it the his way. Its pretty funny that baiters ( and im one) feel they have to attack him. Give the guy a break. In my opinion baiting causes more conflicts than any other issue in the Deer wooods. Personally id like to see it banned, but NJ is a "kill em all" State. So in the mean time I will continue to bait some properties and hunt without it on other properties.
>>>---> Shut Up And Hunt
I didnt attack him, I was just pointing out that Matty made it clear that he feels baiting is a tool for the lazy unless its baiting bears for profit. then its perfectly acceptable.
Ringneck, what's the deal, you seem like you have an axe to grind with me. I went to bat for you when you were being banned as Ringneck, I thought rightfully so, but perhaps I was wrong.
I also took the time to take you out to good spots to hunt. It seems like you have a problem with me now though...[confused]
Same for you scrubby....When you ran over your bow who went out of their way to find you replacement limbs that weren't available anymore and put it back together way cheaper than anyone else and tried to help your ailing father get back in the woods by doing some magic on a bow that should have been too heavy?
Guess I'm a douche though...
I try to be nice to everyone and help anyway I can. Anyone that knows me well know's that's true. So not sure why I'm under the microscope over bait. Like you want my blood because I baited bears but am not a fan of baiting deer.
I have admitted I've hunted over bait before. I have no problem with people hunting over bait, especially beginners and people with really limited time, or in management situations....Just not really for me.
When I hunted bears, I mostly stalked and called. Well last year I didn't even really hunt. I probably hunted for a total of 3 hours, I was very busy taking care of the guys hunting with me. I sat over bait once in 2003 and once on the last hunt. I put clients over bait because that's what they want. Ask Paul, I asked him if he wanted to still hunt and call at all. He has some injuries and was a little limited on time, so he opted for the bait. He'll be with me again this season because he's a good guy and I don't care if he wants to hunt over bait or run around the mountains in a loin cloth.
I don't have to justify my actions. Apparently some of you are just angry with the world and need to find something to gripe about and be angry over.
Relax, smile, breathe, go hunting and enjoy life, it's too short to worry about stupid crap.
By the way, the bear mount looks awesome!!!! I think we're going to add some dunkin donut wrappers and mollasses on the driftwood though...Make it more realistic.[rofl][rofl]

I think over the years Matty has made his point about his opinion and his opinions on the usage of bait.. I also think he does alot for people on this site on a regular basis. Can't wait to see the mount Matty!
I think the big issue with baiting is the over use of it. I am not against it I have even used it here and there. It all depends on the property and situation. I think it should be legal and I also think cross bows and handguns powerful enough to take deer should be legal too.. We as hunters should be enjoying our own methods and sharing our stories and pictures..
Can't wait to see the pics and stories of this season from all of you guys!
Matty all I said was interesting point?! And like scrubby said, you see it as a management tool for bears but not deer. In the end I really don't care what people do either. Like I said in another post, I don't use bait. But it doesn't bother me if others do.
As for me having a problem with you. Well I do not! I like you and appreciate what you did for me 2 seasons ago. I enjoyed hunting with Jon, your brother and yourself. Unfortunately I have lost touch with Jon. Not really sure why either.
Now my question to you, are you trying to unmask me so to speak? Most people know who I am. So if Kris sees this, yes I am Ringneck.
Matty I have no axe to grind, I agree you did help me out just as I helped your brother by GIVING him my dads bow that you worked on..My issue is the whole no bait section and the hypocrisy..Im sorry I called you out but youre wrong..
Well, you kind of do have to justify your actions when you come out so strongly against baiting in one breath but its perfectly acceptable when it suits your needs..
Part of baiting bears is because in some places the woods is so thick in spring that you wont see them. It also allows for a hunter to make sure a female doesnt have cubs. And depending on what you use to hold your bait: barrel, drum, bucket, you can use that to judge the bears size.
If you bend over in your loin cloth and show your fruit basket is that considered baiting?[rofl]
