Will a 17 Caliber be enough for Coyote

A fella from Elizabeth, Co. posted this today on my Small Caliber site. Called in 6 in one sitting. Rifle was a 17 caliber.

LOL yes they do. When he left the Ranch he was hunting he stopped by the owners house. The Rancher gave him a box of Beef as a gift. Seems like Cattle Ranchers appreciate it when you shoot the Calf Killers.

Yes it's a 17/204. Take a 204R neck it down to 17 and wallah lol.

The 17hmr is actually a .22mag necked down to 17. 2250fps velocities are more than enough to take a Fox or Coyote at 100 yards. And you don't have to worry about bullet splash like with the 3800-4000fps centerfires.

    I call friday night PUI!

I've taken yotes with 22 quiets (750 fps). .17 should be no problem

Many coyotes are taken with .17s just as many if not more are wounded and never recovered by shooters I know hunting pa.
Imo the .17s lightweight bullet weights unless exceptionally well placed is just not enough to reliably bring coyotes down. I'm not saying they shouldn't be used. they are great on Fox. I'm saying I think eastern coyotes outweigh there western counterparts and therefore require just a hair heavier bullet than 25 grains.

All that being said.... exactly 15 coyote kills were reported by nj Predator hunters last year . .
