I used to do it but I was younger and excited to get one. I was always cautious of who was around,
but it's more rewarding of shooting a cockbird flying away then sitting on the ground looking at you in a very vulnerable position. Lol
What about if you wing one , it can't fly and is running and you don't have a dog and no one else is around.
i dont phesant hunt much but someone once told me a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush
I hunt with my two dogs so no ground shots for me either even if I didn't hunt with dogs I still wouldn't
I don't under stand the mentality most hunters on NJH are against shooting a running deer it has to be a quick ethical clean quick kill, but a bird should be flying or it is un sportsman like… doesn't that bird deserve a quick clean kill also? I understand the hunting with dogs a have no problem with that, but if you see a bird and you have a safe shot why not just take the easier shot ? after all the idea is to kill a bird for dinner>

its un-sporting, kinda like shooting a deer on a bait pile.
