I saw a heard of at least 20 maybe a bit more yesterday in zone 36. It was about 5:30 pm and they were feeding in the marsh. I could only get a quick peek at them before I'd miss my exit. The number of the heard was the only thing that stood out.

There are a lot of deer in 36.  Too bad there aren't many places to hunt.

I took a look at the map this morning and found that out. If you have private land you are doing good.

You can hunt private in a few towns.  There is just no public land.  The north side of 287 is zone 3.  It is park of Ringwood State Park.

As far as towns, most are bow hunting.  There are only a few that allow firearm hunting.

202 is the line between zones 3 and 36.  Stag Hill is zone 3.  Mahwah requires a discharge permit or a badge in the zone 36 section.  To get one (the permit) you have to prove that you have permission to be on a piece of land that is big enough.

I too have seen hunters, guys dragging deer, bait piles and gutpiles in the reservoir, the Tenafly Nature Center, along the Palisades, the scout camp in Alpine, the county land between the scout camp and private woods, the private woods, the golf courses in Haworth and in Emerson.

These are great wilderness hunts made by fine and honorable woodsman.

My doctor gave me perscription sunglasses because my retinas were being damaged by all of the tin I was staring into.

Never heard of that Been living and shooting in Bergen County for many years and I shoot with tons of cops and officials, never have we ever heard of this, I believe a discharge ordinance is up to towns and municipalities "Not County" What would be next a NO WEAPON DISCHARGE STATE LAW I also hunt in Zone 36 and it is a huge zone covering three counties not just bergen, it isn't easy but you can find land to hunt in 36 just need to spend a lot of time serching and knocking on doors

Alot of the "No discharge" municipalities are "Bow only" you should look into that. I hunt a couple of properties like that
Posted:  14 Feb 2008 1:39 PM
Done in the southern part of the state it a no discharge of weapons  so they can include bows.
Posted:  14 Feb 2008 1:59 PM
No discharge does include bows,be careful. Usally there is a # on the sign you call for info. Not all "No discharge" are bow only. Sorry If I confused anyone

I'm in Little Falls. Zone 36. Town law says no discharge of a weapon unless to protect human life or for hunting following all aplicable state rules. I suck at this hunting thing. have plenty of time to try it but no one i know hunts really. Lot of deer hit my property all the time following the ridge from Garret Mt. One day I'll get one. Few nice bucks in the past and does always.

The dividing line for zone 36 is route 202.  Stag Hill is zone 3.  Anyone who calls it zone 36 and hunts it is probably a liar and, by deffinition, a poacher.

I don't know who hunts in 36 or where, but if you look at the harvest stats zone 36 has as many deer taken as Zone 3 or Zone 4 both of which have plenty of public land.

I hunted High Mountain and what is now the William Paterson University property. Back then it was just the local woods. I calculated the spot where I got my first deer at age 16 it now has a dorm building there. Also it is no more than a 1/4 mile from where the Bates Sport shop is now.

I was checking out a place in Roseland along Eisenhower Parkway a couple of years ago. A small farm with corn & tomatos. Never could get someone at the farm stand that could actually give me permission. Actually I am not even certain it is zone 36.

Also there are a bunch of small tracts of public land in Chatham. A police permit is needed to hunt there. Once I meet the officer who is in charge of the permit process while turkey hunting at the watershed. He said to come in to the PD in August and he would check my bow proficiency and issue my a permit.  At the time I worked near there and stopped in several times during August of that year. Every time I did he wasn't there and I finally gave up.

Monsters live in Northern Bergen county but most of the towns have no discharge laws which means bow & guns.  Mahwah and Oakland are the only towns where one can hunt on a piece of land that is greater than 5 acres. Everyone is right about our finest hunting the county along with a few others. There is a huge deer population which is about out of control given the increasing deer/car collisions.  My shrubs and flowers have been getting devasted over the last several years!

Weird thing is that we never saw a deer back in the 70's and 80's and now they are all over.

Biggest deer I have ever seen was in Closter, NJ.

Officer Schafer keeps a nice choke hold on the state property and herd behind the nut houses across from the trooper barracks.
