those birds just didnt want to fly...great shooting.  I cant imagine how much practice it takes to be able to hit a moving target with a trad bow

Striper, I don't thinks it's any easier with a stickbow over all. each bow has its +'s and -'S in that situation. At the very least its a hell of a lot of fun.

The birds were put to sleep and tucked in really well so they wouldnt flush before we got to them.
Some it took a few toe taps to get them to fly others were gone before we walked up on them.

I do think that it does take alot of skill to kill a flying animal with a bow an arrow, but I dont think that stepping and kicking a bird to get it to fly and then shooting it is very sporting.Sorry guys I just dont see the sport in it and also makes hunters look very bad.

All I can say to you BF is try it... Not every bird we shot at had to be booted... but we did have to flush a large number of the birds.  The dog we had was a  pointer not a flusher so when the birds were dug in how would you go about flushing them?

BUckFever, when humans do it it is no different froma dog doing it, plus do you think a persom that can't move ( Para & quad polegic (sp) Handlecapped & in a wheelchair ) but likes duck hunting thats it's not sport to shoot a duck on the ground!..it is a sport to them.I think it is also, to have someone flush a bird it is still up to the archer to hit the bird, Thats the sport of it... Bird in flight on a stick, That is a real sport..

Sorry guys but I just cannot see sport in poking or stepping on a bird to get it to fly and then shoot it.I have hunted pheasant with and without dogs and never had to step on one to get it to fly.Again,I agree it takes a skillfull archer to nail something in flight but just dont agree with the method.Mystic I am sorry bud,but none of these guys look like parapolegics.

none of them shoot at a bird on the ground either..

Well actualy My knee was in a brace at the time. Does that count.
Everyone is entitled to there opinion. On the other hand I see no challange in throwing 300 bb sized pellets at a bird no matter how it was flushed just my opinion.

It takes real skill to arrow a bird in flight. But it takes a complete moron to step and or kick a bird to fly. There is no sport in that, and ones that did this, your not hunters, you all should be ashamed of yourselfs for doing this. At least don't brag about it and post pictures on here knowing that "THEY" are watching, what you did was add more wood to there fire, "THEY" will use this towards us and hunting and try in ernest to stop us

I saw nothing wrong with what these hunters did.  The pheasants were NOT shot on the ground.  They all allowed the bird a chance to escape by flight.  And not every bird shot at was harvested.

Just a side comment... I would think shooting a traditional bow would be easier since you don't have to stop and hit the wall as with a compound.

.I am not against what they did but I just do not see any sport in what they did.Like BHC stated itwill just give the anti's more ammunition.
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 3:46 PM
yoda, Ive taken them both ways and truly see no difference. Like I said both ways have there advantages.Being at full draw before the bird takes off is a BIG advantage.

Let me ask all you pheasant hunting pros out there...Your dog's on point... the bird is holed in in a brush pile and won't flush. Your dog doesnt flush birds. You stand there for and hour hoping the bird will flush? Do you walk away and leave the bird?

F %$ K the antis I go out of my way .. bend over backwards to be considerate to non hunters. On the other hand I'll walk 10 blocks out of my way to piss on an anti. Your not gonna change there mind and if you think this is fuel for them your clueless.
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 4:11 PM
Most pheasant hunting over dogs with shotguns produce flushes pretty close to the hunters position. Not much difference in shooting distance and a bit less difficult or challenging than with a bow. Why care what the antis think when they think your more "sporting" method of killing game isn't any different, whatever your method is.Great video Sugar.

Nope, you do what you have to do to make it fly. I have had to make the birds fly a few times myself. My dog works hard to find the birds. And when she does, that bird is flying. I will not pull her off of a point because the bird won't leave its cover. That bird is flying one way or another.
