I'm glad your ok with it.
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 4:43 PM
I don't kick it like it's a football. Just a little nudge to make it fly.

Buckfever, do you pheasant hunt? If so do you have a dog?
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 4:56 PM
Ringneck,I haven't pheasant hunted in about 10yrs.No I don't have a dog but someone I hunted with had dogs. When I hunted pheasant it was on state land, not on game preserves.
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 5:07 PM
Just for the record we weren't on a preserve.

It never ceases to amaze me how guys who have never done something can sat it's not right. A lot like the guys who put down hound hunting having never done it... as far as I'm concerned it's just talking out of your arses. Some People may say shooting a small bear is unsporting. To them I say there morons too.

OK, I have been pheasant hunting for the past 10 years. The past for years have been with my dog. State land and preserves. Most of the time and the birds flush easy on both state land and preserves. But there are times when that bird just does not want to move. Like I said before, my dog works very hard for the birds. Her job is to find the bird. Her reward is to retrieve the bird (if we get it) after she finds it. There have been a few times the bird was under so much cover, that when she winded it she couldn't pin point it. So I released her to try and find it, she started to stick her nose in the tall gr [no swearing please] and then the bird came out. Is that ok or do you guys think the bird should flush on its own.

wow we back in school I see, whats next My dad can beat up your dad???

OK BuckFever, BHC and some others don't like seeing someone kick at a bird to flush it... So why is everyone getting all mad for? They hunt that way be happy for them, They don't like the way You hunt don't talk to them about that hunt... Once we start being happy for other hunters thats when we will be a better Group of humans. This is what the ARA's like to see, Us fighting with each other..Everyone shake hands and make up.

the birds found on both state and private lands are pretty much the same.  they are mostly all stocked birds.  the temperment of the bird will dictate whether they will run, flush, or just sit there since they think it is safe.  Some birds need a little nudge.  Buckfever, would you rather they shot the bird on the ground?  now that is unsporting in most all upland game hunters eyes.  Plus they were hunting with trad. bow equipment.  if that is sporting i dont know what is.????  and is there any difference in kicking the brush directly next to a bird and nudging the bird itself?

Very good point, now thats a no no. To be fare, she said no sport in it.

I was simply stating my opinion, not trying to tell anybody what to do.I thought that is what these forums were about, debating, but some people get childish with name calling when they do not here what they want.

Buckfever, i guess you deer hunt? With a name like that i think you do.
Do you bait?
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 5:33 PM
Listen,I am not saying that you guys are wrong, again just that I do not see the sport in it.

No.I hunt federal land.I have hunted over bait though.
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 5:36 PM
Ringneck. There is nothing unethical about prodding a bird to flush once found. Both you and MS22 have a good understanding of how pheasant hunting is done by most. For those who don't think our methods are sporting, don't do it our way. We won't mind.

I'm not against baiting, but some people say there is no sport in that too.
Mystic, we're ok, just talking

Name calling? I was just refering back to BH cops post where he called the guys in the videos morons because of the way they flushed the birds. And comparing it to other peoples oninions on different hunting methods. so take your head out of your [no swearing please] before you start throwing threats around.

I really dont even pheasant hunt but i know the basic premise from watching hunting shows, reading articles, and listening to what others have said on here.  The other day i was watching a show where a dog made a beautiful point.  The hunters walked by three times trying to flush the bird kicking the brush around the dog.  The dog never left point either.  Finally they walked to almost the tip of the nose of the dog spotted the bird and flushed it.  it was amazing how that dog stayed on point the whole time.

Would you want to pull that dog off point because the bird wouldn't flush on it's own?
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 5:44 PM
It was not a threat in any way.I am sorry,I am not a man of words but of action.I was simply stating that if I had a gun in my hand, and kicked you in the a$$,would you stay there or run?(analogy)For all you uneducated people

great videos..
Posted:  09 Mar 2006 5:52 PM
of course not ringneck...that dog did a great job finding that bird.  You reward the dog by flusing the bird and allowing him/her to retrieve itafter the shot.  What many dont understand is that hunting with dogs is different.  you have to reward them for their good work.  If you take a dog off point that would be negative re-enforement.
