Would you rather have your arrow do a pass thru the vitals or go in half way and have the head of the arrow tear up the inside of the vitals.

I vote for non pass-thru as long as major vitals are hit. No blood trail problem here.

Pass through.

Arrows kill by blood loss. Blood's job is to remove CO2 and add oxygen to keep the animal alive.

For the pulmonary system (lungs, heart) to work the system has to have no leakages (bleeding) and no loss of pressure.

Bleeding is a loss of pressure in the system, but importantly, holes through the chest cavity equalize the air pressure inside and outside of the chest---the diaphram muscles can't do their job and pump air in and out, exchanging oxygen and CO2.  It's like trying to blow up a balloon with a hole in it...if you get one hole and the arrow stays in, the hole is at least partly plugged. If you get 2 holes, the air pressure won't be sustainable.

With a pass through you get more holes, and a quicker death, IMHO.

Deer Master, I have to go with a pass through because from a treestand, the entrance wound is higher up on the animal. With a pass through, the blood can flow downward and leave a good trail. Without, the body cavity has to fill up, then the blood can empty to the ground. I got a doe through the back into one lung and the heart one time with no pass through. I got lucky and heard her cough up blood as she died. There was no blood trail, and if it wasn't for her making noise, I would have spent some time looking for her.

Guess I was from the old camp that an arrows still in the vitals is going to do a heck of a lot of internal damage as the deer runs, and if the deer doesn't fall over quick, it eventually breaks causing damge as it gets caught on something and breaks off.

I had pass thru's that the exit hole either plugged or didn't bleed for quite some time.

Either way, in the kill zone is dinner.
