you can kill someone with a 22 if you hit the right spot

Yea i totally agree with this however the idea is to stop the person.  Shoot a crackhead with a .22 they might die but when? In a few hours? In a day? the idea is to shoot someone and put them down for the count so they cannot continue their assault.

i guess you didnt get my comment about taking them out of the fight.  just because you shoot them once with the pussy ass taurus doesnt mean they are going to stop shooting at you.

What i was trying to say if i were to shoot someone with a judge at a 6-8 foot range (most of the time like i said it would be around 3-4 feet) with those defense rounds i posted they will stop. if i shoot them with 1 or 5 either way that threat is eliminated. and if you mixed it up with the first few shots as the .410 defense roudns and then had 45 lc rounds even better.

If you want a shotgun for self-defense then get a shotgun. If you want a handgun for self-defense then get a quality revolver or pistol in an appropriate caliber. The Judge is like the handgun equivalent of all-season tires; passable for most varying road applications and conditions, but great at none of them.

i agree with you setters... im not saying this is the ultimate home defence pistol by any means. but for upclose and personal it will get the job done and thats about it.

For God's sakes.

The Judge is a gimmick.  It's an extremely unsuitable weapon for home defense, despite what the advertising will tell you.

Taurus handguns in general are also not well known for being durable or well made.  The last time I saw someone detail strip an S&W and compare it to a Taurus, it turned out just as I expected.  The Taurus had, to be charitable about it, a few issues.  Piss poor heat treatment and casting methods.  Under no circumstances would I rely on a Taurus as a serious home defense weapon.

Furthermore, 410 bore shotshells are extremely poor for self defense, regardless of the load.  The very bare minimum requirement for a cartridge is that it needs to be able to get 12 inches of penetration against a badguy to ensure that your shot can reach something vital that will stop him from assaulting you.  410 bore shotshells don't reach 12 inches.  Even the slugs only get about 8 inches or so.  The buckshot pellets only get 4 to 5 inches penetration and they only weigh 62 grains.  I have serious doubts about that light of buck pellets penetrating things like ribs or sternums.  45 Colt with a hollow point will get around 13 to 15 inches of penetration.  However, if you want to use a 45 Colt revolver for self defense.....get a properly made 45 Colt, not a damned Taurus.  The extra long cylinder throats required to chamber the 410 shotshells greatly degrades both accuracy and muzzle velocity of the 45 Colt cartridges.

Someone upthread mentioned you could stop someone with a 22 with good shot placement.  Some commonly available 22 cartridges will also reach the 12 inch penetration requirement.  Frankly, you are better off with a Browning Buckmark loaded with CCI Velocitors than a Taurus Judge loaded with any 410 shotshell if your purpose was self defense.

The judge is a gimmicky weapon that's good for shooting snakes or just for kicks.  To advertise it as effective for self defense puts people's lives in danger because it encourages them to purchase this poorly made, inadequate firearm for that purpose.

A test of the judge and its performance can be seen here

If you want to buy one for kicks, be my guest.  If you buy one for self defense, you're risking your life and that of your family.

Ever since Taurus decided to work with NJIT to develop "smart gun" technology I started viewing Taurus as a company that I will never buy from.

True but i'm happy to see that at lease some people under stand what i'm saying 410 round 5 shots 1-10 yards or so does the job. not the best weapon but it does the damn job, thank you and good night

The 410. has the punch of a 41 magnum, of course it will drop someone to the body, in fact they will most likely get dead from it.

OHHH, A fan boy. This comment explains in it. Your not going to win the argument with him.

No where did it say buck shot, did you even watch the video? Did you see the pattern on the target at close range? two shots and you will stop them in their tracks.

The 2 1/2 inch game loads carry 1/2 ounce of shot in sizes 4, 6, and 7 1/2. With #7 1/2 shot this amounts to about 175 pellets per shell.

One(1) 000 buck pellet (approx. .36 cal.) traveling at shotshell velocities, which we can assume would be somewhere in the range of 1100 to 1200fps in a short-barreled revolver; possesses about 200-220 ft.lbs. of energy. Each 000 pellet weighs only 65 grs. Individually it's diminutive and ballistically inept. In comparison, one pellet's energy from the .410 shotshell is less than the energy of a good modern .38 Spcl. defense load fired from of a 2" barreled snubbie. Of course, energy goes up as you combine each additional 000 pellet provided each impacts on the target. Th .410 shotshell is a round used by either experts or beginners on the skeet range or the hunting fields. Would you want to rely on this round for self-defense? Just some food for thought.
