Anybody ever camp at the wilderness sites at Round Valley?  You have boat across the lake or hike 3 miles to the nearest site.  I was thinking of taking my nephew for his birthday.  Can you swim on that side?

Glad Joe spoke up.

I used to go there ... like decades ago .... with my girlfreind. It was mostly couples, other quiet people,  and we did some quiet swimming (clothing optional ) For sure we never saw a Ranger.

Don't know what the place is like now.

We usually hike the short loop trail that follows part of the western shoreline.  It's easily one of the most beautiful parts of the state and a nice long, but not too difficult hike.  I take my lab there and he loves it-I let him off of the leash even though its not allowed so he can swim.  He's from field lines and there is no happier time for him than when he's in the woods or the water.  It just sucks that I have to "break the rules" in order to have fun with him.  I'm not surprised that it's the same story on the eastern side of the lake.  God forbid someone hikes 4 miles to a campsite with a pack full of gear and then decides to cool off.
