Not much. I sat politely through the entire discussion about how only grass roots support--oh and lots of checks!--is the only way HSUS will be able to help stop the "trophy bear hunt." They had the usual form letters and the addresses for the local reps. All in all a 10 person self love festival. Though I don;'t think they appreciated me when I started snacking on some jerky in the back row![]() __________________ Lord make me fast and accurate,

The June 18th deadline for commenting on the Bear Policy is a little more than a week away and the antis are coming on BIG TIME. The Division has received about 500 letters from people supporting the policy, and about 2000 letters OPPOSING it. That's in addition to another 1000 postcards in OPPOSITION to the policy. About 4000 emails have come in but an accurate break down of those responses isn't available yet, but at the moment most are OPPOSING the policy. The BEAR Group and other animal rights/anti-hunting nut cases have taken the art of the FORM LETTER to a new height. They are going door-to-door with form letters and post cards; they are handing people these things directly, getting them to sign and are supplying the postage and mailing the completed postcards and letters themselves. They are thinking of every possible way to get people who oppose the policy to comment. They are well-organized, well-financed, and COMMITTED to their cause.
And what is our side doing??? Having a bear season IS NOT a forgone conclusion just because Christie supports it. Obviously, it helps but IT'S NOT A LOCK. And this more than just about a bear hunt. It's about beating people who don't want you to be able to eat a steak, go fishing or even ride a horse. It's about showing ALL LEGISLATORS that we are here and we mean business!! IF YOU DON'T SPEAK UP, THEY WON'T HEAR YOU!!!! Below is a form letter that people can print out, fill out and mail in. Because I have discovered that people are lazy I have them fill it out on the spot and then I mail them in myself. If you have good connections with your local sporting goods store I suggest you go there with some copies and ask that they try to get as many people who come into their store to fill out the letters as possible. Tell them you will pick them up by the 15th and will mail them in. Don't forget about kids! I see no reason why young people shouldn't fill out the letter. It's important for them to learn that if they want to be heard they need to act! Hound your relatives, neighbors, friends, and co-workers as well. You can also submit your comments ONLINE. Here's the link: http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/bearpolicy10_comment.htm . Truthfully, I know its more of a pain, but a letter or postcard is BETTER! However, if commenting online is the only way to get people to respond then go for it. And I have been told the agricultural community has basically been silent on this issue. Again, everybody seems to think that a hunt is going to happen. That's not necessarily so! Please encourage them to be heard!! FORM LETTER Larry Herrighty CBBMP Division of Fish and Wildlife Department of Environmental Protection PO Box 400 Trenton, NJ 08625-0400 Dear Mr. Herrighty: I am writing to voice my support for the NJ Fish & Game Council’s 2010 Comprehensive Black Bear Management Policy. The policy is based on the latest available science and outlines a holistic approach towards bear management which includes education, garbage management, aversive conditioning, an annual bear season, and other techniques that will best minimize conflicts between bears and people. Thanks for the report, I had something come up with work that prevented me from attending myself. But we do need to submit letters or email comments ASAP. This site has enough members to catch the antis alone if everyone bothers to take the time.
Mine is one of the 500 pro hunt responses - is yours? (rhetorical question for those of you that DID take the time to respond) __________________ Brian Cowden - Trout Unlimited Eastern Conservation Staff (Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative Coord.)
