I wish my health benefits were 100% paid!! That would give me an extra 70 bucks a week!!

I'll just say Christie at least has the courage to look the problem in the face and try to fix it. In the past no one has, they just added to it. Everyone here has cried in the past about property taxes, income tax etc. Well look at your towns budget for a change, most towns pay around 55% for schools in which 80% is personnel and 21% for police which is 85% personnel. But god forbid one of these groups have to sacrifice anything. NJEA is willing to spend 8-10 million just to defame him but not one dime towards the teachers benefits, tell me who is the real villan here. Next time your taxes go up don't blame your local government, thank a teacher

The teachers are the reason taxes go up?

The 20 thousand dollar package. Its a pro-rated package where about $5000 is paid per employee. We as a district agreed years ago to pay into medical we pay $200 a month and now another 1.5%. I am  glad I still have a job but what I am saying is I do not know of any teachers making 90K a year. None by me are

Yes,in my town our teachers are asking for a 4.5% raise in salary and 12% increase for health benefits which comes to 4.1 million dollars raising each households taxes around $545. It's not rocket science it's reality. Only ones who don't understand it are teachers and cops.

And us in the real world pay around 1500 a month, and your extra 1.5% is $75 a month, too much to ask? You people have been getting it for so long you've lost sight of reality

maximus in todays day i cant believe what you just wrote.. You might be right but really doubt it. 12% increase in medical and 4.5% raise we just recieved a letter explaining a pay freeze which is fine if it saves jobs. You must live in an area with money because I live in an area and work in an area thats struggling.

I live in Somerset county which my district is the Bridgewater/Raritan school district. Those numbers aren't mine,I recieved them from our Board of Ed at a Budget meeting two nights ago. At our budget meeting they are willing to cut from our kids education which is only 19% of the budget instead of their 81% of personnel

I'm neither and I don't understand it.  Other than my wife and myself, I can't imagine who's gonna shape my children's future more than a teacher or who's going to protect them more than cop...so I guess I'm ok with it.

Cops are a different story they need their unions to protect them against false accusations my cop hating liberals. When they do make outlandishly large salaries it is because they work outlandishly high amounts of overtime.

You nail it right on the head with the phrase "shape my children's future". Currently the practice of most teachers, administrators and schoolboards is to indoctrinate children into some politically correct utopia.

That's one of the things that scare me,instead of teaching in class the other day my sons teacher took it upon herself to tell the kids how Christie is robbing them of there education. She even went as far as calling him the devil.

I hear you.  Unfortunately there's always going to be a few bad eggs who don't know what a child should hear and what they shouldn't, even more important, what's age appropriate.  That's ashame but hopefully your children will get more teachers through the years who are more positive in their development.

I must disagree 230,average cop in my town makes 80K a year plus full benefits. I'm not a cop or teacher hater,my Father was a Teacher and my cousin was the youngest police cheif in NJ at one time. I'm a realist and don't agree that in tough economic times both of these individuals continue to want more. Last month in our town the cops wrote less than 100 tickets with a police force of 18. Do the math and you'll see they continue to want more while doing less

I hope so too, none of these budget and political issues should be brought into the classroom, especially 3rd grade

230,  I Swear you and I could have a good conversation and not argue if you would just let the Liberal thing go...even if only for a single conversation.  It seems to have you totally obsessed.  You sound like an intelligent person but I promise you, everything that is wrong in the world is not the fault of liberals and Democrats...I'm a Republican and I even believe that.

Is this a trend or blip?  To say they wrote less tickets in one particular month and then lump that in a statement that says they continually want more while doing less seems a bit of a stretch.  I don't think writing less tickets and wanting a higher salary are mutually exclusive.

You might be right. I tend to give cops the benefit of the doubt because there are so many cop bashers on here.

Wow, you obviously have a problem with them.  I tend to side with cops for two reasons, both of my brothers are detectives and it's a dangerous and thank-less job.  In my opinion, they don't make enough.  Of course there are bad apples, but by and large I believe cops are stand up people.

I side with teachers for the reasons I stated earlier.

Here's the whole quote...

Cops and teachers.  Most are over-rated and over paid.    There's both good and bad cops and teachers.  But you know what, it's a career choice!   For public employees, poor pay used to equal great benefits. Now, they have equaled out and it's time to come back to reality.
As for who is going to influence your kids more than you and your wife?  I hope it's your friends and family, after all, they should have the same values as you and your wife.

The only thing I count on the school system to do is try to turn my kids in Sheppole!  And most cops to write tickets to make the government money.  And that's not their fault, it's what society has come to.  They can't do their job against real criminals because no one has their back, the criminals have more rights than the cops or us!  Tickets generate income, criminals don't/can't pay fines.
