My girlfriend recently told me she wants me to teach her to fish so i need your help.  I want to get her a rod and a reel combo that is decent that wont break the bank.  I want a spinning rod for both bass and trout in one rod, Id like to spend in the $50 range, any recomendations?

your best bet is to check out dicks and see what kind of combo's they have on sale. I got my g/f a real nice 5' spinning combo(I think quantum) for 40 bucks last year

I have been using a 5'6" berkley lighting rod for the past 10 years with a shimano 1000 spining reel I originaly bought it for a trout set up but fish for bass with it all the time.

Ugly stik, ugly stik, ugly stik. a majority of my rods are ugly stik and ive caught all my best fish on them. very reliable, easy to use, comfortable, cheap, and perfect. i even have the Ugly Stick ladies rod. part of the proceeds go to breast cancer, metallic pink and black rod. I caught my 38" carp on it without so much as a problem. i use it for everything.
