Its an unrealistic goal. Pike county, IL currently has an estimated 4:1 ratio.
Its a belief that bucks/does are born on a 1:1 ratio. This being said, in a 1:1 ratio herd 1 buck will be replaced by 1 button buck each year; in a 4:1 ratio each 1 buck harvested will be replaced by 4 button bucks. If your season bag limit for bucks is more than the current ratio of bucks to does; there are going to be less and less bucks under general rule unless you dont fill all those tags. __________________ |

Yeah right I didn't see one black person with dogs. You sure they are allowed to even have deer dogs the blacks?
When we went to the dinner we sat on one side and the blacks sat on the other and they had a rear entrance too. I was dumbfounded what I saw. Shows proof even they get blammed for letting dogs loose down there?
I seen dog crews with walke talke's round dogs up everywhere all over the roads, what a circus it was. |

SC ranks at the bottom of the list for book bucks. I didn't know book buck potential was the criteria for good hunting. But it has lot of deer and few hunters per acre, and pigs, which is ideal for me, but not if you want a book buck. |

How the hell does having MORE bucks breeding do this in fact having a small herd with 1 or two doniment big guyd doing all the breeding can even NARROW that aspect of things. JB - I should have been more clear. If you have too many does, then genetically inferior bucks get to breed many of the does and pass along their inferior genetics (talking antler size). When there is a 1:1 balance, the biggest, strongest bucks can run off the lesser bucks and breed the does. You would be correct that a 1:1 ratio will "narrow" the gene pool, but with excellent genetics. __________________ Brian Cowden - Trout Unlimited Eastern Conservation Staff (Musconetcong Home Rivers Initiative Coord.)
