Why do YOU need to carry a gun on your person at all times?

Because the majority of us citizens don't live a secluded life. We travel to work, shop, and some of us enjoy hiking into isolated areas. Crime happens everywhere. I have several immediate family members who've been mugged at gun point while growing up in Elizabeth. The question is why should a law abiding citizen NOT be allowed to carry a firearm? Why should I not be allowed to protect my life. I've seen a gun stop a group of attackers with a simple brandishing of the firearm. Without that gun, a certain someone I know would have been severely beaten if not killed just because they where walking down "the wrong street" on their way home from WORK! Why do we allow someone who handles large amounts of money to posses a CCW, yet we don't allow a parent to protect their own children while out and about in everyday life? The fact is that the world is a very dangerous place and affects people from all walks of life. We are not safe anywhere. I don't rely on the police to help me. I can't ask an attacker to wait until the police show up. I can go on and on, yet you can't give me one reason why I shouldn't be allowed to carry. Oh, there's also this thing called the Second Amendment. As a police officer, you have a very dangerous job by it's nature. You also have the legal right to carry a firearm at all times. Do you leave the home without your gun on your days off? Why or why not?

WE ARE SUPPOSED TO GET LAWS PASSED WE WANT NOT JUST WHAT THE POLITICIANS WANT!!!

Too many people just accept the fact that politicians do what they want; rather than taking a stand in support of our Rights.

I agree you should be able to have all the guns you want, but you didn't answer my question. Why do YOU need to carry a gun on your person at all times?

Because I have no confidence in civilian law enforcement to protect myself and my family better than I can....

Do you really want to rely soley on some guy who became a cop because of the pension to protect you ?

Do you really want the government handling your entire life, EVEN your ability to survive/live ?

When it comes down to it- I can offer my family a higher degree of protection, especially more timely protection, than a local cop can; for many reason, but mainly because I'M HERE NOW....

Chris have you not read:

Statistics from the FBI’s Uniformed Crime Report of 2007 show that states with right-to-carry laws have a 30% lower homicide rate, 46% lower robbery, and 12% lower aggravated assault rate and a 22% lower overall violent crime rate than do states without such laws.  That is why more and more states have passed right-to-carry laws over the past decade.

In 1987, the state of Florida enacted a “shall issue” law that has become the model for other states. Anti-gun groups, politicians and the news media predicted the new law would lead to vigilante justice and “Wild West” shootouts on every corner.

But since adopting a concealed carry law Florida’s total violent crime rate has dropped 32% and its homicide rate has dropped 58%. Floridians, except for criminals, are safer due to this law. And Florida is not alone. Texas’ violent crime rate has dropped 20% and homicide rate has dropped 31%, since enactment of its 1996 carry law.

Do you not know that NJ has some of the most deadliest, violent cities in all of the US?

and because the state or government should not tell a person what he or she can own or carry if they are a legal law abiding citizen.

The petition gets sent!  I just got a response back from Senator Doherty in response to the letter from the petition.  We have just sent over 60 letters in the past 3 days.  Keep signing and forwarding!  Get it up on websites, blogs, facebook, my space, have friends sign.

I have pre-filed A-1282/S-2801 in the Senate and will reintroduce the bill at the beginning of the new session.  Please note that at the start of the new session each House will assign the bill a new number.

I would suggest you contact the Legislators with your request after the new session begins in mid January.

Regards,
Mike Doherty

When a Gang Members initiation is to murder someone in the commision of a crime, like taking your wallet and then killing you anyway, you make the news, he shows the wallet, he's now a official gang member.

Did you ever hear of the McDonalds massacre, where some nut case was shooting everyone?, if your kids were in there, wouldn't you wish one Father or Mother was in there with a gun?

I have a Florida Non-Resident carry permit which is honored in the following states, with certain conditions.
FLORIDA'S RECIPROCITY STATES
      Alabama    (1,3,5)
      Alaska    (1)
      Arizona (6)
      Arkansas    (1)
      Colorado   (1,4)
      Delaware
      Georgia (1)
      Idaho  (3,6)

      New Hampshire   (1,3,4,6)
      New Mexico (1)
      North Carolina (1)
      North Dakota (3,6)
      Ohio (1)

I just signed.  Don't know if this will ever happen in NJ but we have to try.   Police cannot protect anyone.  They can only come in after the crime and then say that it is unlikely crime will be solved.  In my township in South Jersey the police are more likely to be part of the problem.   We had one caught using his patrol car in another township to buy drugs.  Not only got off with a slap on the wrist but has brothers and friends still on the local police force.

California - another state with awful gun laws:

NRA's legislative arm: Right-to-Carry Bill Scheduled to be Heard Next Week! Please Contact the Members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee Today! Assembly Bill 357 is scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Committee on Public Safety on Tuesday, January 12. AB357, sponsored by Assembly Member Steve Knight Republican, District 36), would create a “shall issue” concealed handgun permit system in California. Under current law, an applicant must show cause as to why they should be issued a permit to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense. AB357 would remove that stipulation and require sheriffs to issue the license if all other mandated criteria are satisfied. Please contact the members of the Assembly Committee on Public Safety immediately and respectfully urge them to support AB357."

If California gets it done, no reason why NJ can't.

most of the states with hard to get carry and ridiculous gun laws are the states that have most of the crime and gang problems,
Cali
New York
Ill.
Wiscon.
New Jersey
and some of the states that are easy to get them in have the problems in the cities and towns that don't allow them, Like parts of Philly, Little Rock, Memphis
Dam i think it was back in the mid 90's that South Philly was on the verge of being declared a war zone.
Look at are capital, the worst gang problem in the state, gangs survive on the fear they cause, they're armed and we aren't

I don't normally knock the cops either.  I have friends who are cops in Phila, NJ State Troopers, and some NJ townships.  But, where I live in Washington Twp, Gloucester County I personally know of several cops who are scumbag idiots.  I mentioned one who was fired for using his police vehicle for a personal drug buy.  Last year police in our town responded to a 911 call about a home invasion.    The man at the house told police there was no problem.  The man's wife and kids were being held at gunpoint by the home invaders.  The police then left without clearing the house.   The criminals then got away with a large sum of money.   A year prior there was a home invasion in the same area.  Children were tied up as they returned from school and held until the father arrived home.  The father was then murdered.   These police cannot and will not protect us or our homes.  Which is why we need RTC law.
