It really is amazing.  You see many pics of out of State bucks and then you see the photos above and really have to say that NJ does produce some great bucks.  Awesome taxidermy work.  I really like the one licking its shoulder.  I might have my next one done like that.

My buddies are going to lynch me soon for giving up the truth about monmouth county. In regard to catskillhuntr's question no there is a lot of open ground. But the biggest reason for all these large bucks is that the guys who shot them are good hunters, and they put a lot of time in chaseing the deer. Not just during the season, it's a year round project for them. Try it sometime you would not believe what you can learn and pattern.

Allot of these bucks also head into some smaller areas that few people have access to.

And, as you can see - its allot of the same guys killing these deer. They let the little ones go, which includes 2.5 year old 8 pointers. After 3-4 years of doing this - and you have the properties tied up so no one else can get in there to kill the small bucks, you end up with deer of this class.

Most of us don't have the resources or the property access. Bottom line - these are not 2.5 year old deer that are being shot - and the hardest deer to p [no swearing please] is a 105 inch 8 point that is just outside the ears -

To each his own own - My proudest buck is my first buck - which was a broken spike- 1 pointer that I shot with my dad at 12 years on the first day of my first shotgun deer hunt! Back when it was 1 buck - and the doe days were 1-3 days the following week

Sorry you are wrong, if you have followed my posts most of the property is open to anybody.

These guys spend more time in the woods, period. The statement "A blind squirrel will find an acorn" means that if you put in the time you will be rewarded. Plus as Ive said they know how to hunt!!

Please notice that I am not included with these guys, not that I don't try but because the other factor in the equation "GOOD LUCK" doesn't shine on me.If I didn't have bad luck I wouldnt have any luck, thats another story.

If we (meaning you and I) could spend half of the time in the woods that these guys do we would have our photos up here. I am glad just to see deer in the woods, that makes me happy. If I am lucky enough to connect on one thats even better.I enjoy just being in the woods, any thing extra is a bonus.

My largest deer was shot with a gun, was in Maine in 1992 192lb 9 point, with a bow was 2003 115lb 8 point in Wall NJ, and I have been hunting deer since 1960. Yes Ive killed hundreads of them but not the big boys. I hunt hard and am pretty knowledgeable about deer but somebody always does better than me. So I will keep trying and enjoying every minute in the woods.

Thank You

Rich

Don't mean to ruffle your feathers, and certainly not coming from a jelousy angle either. I have shot more than my share of deer, with a couple worth mounting. If I don't shoot another buck worth mounting I wont lose any sleep.

I just think it is a bit misleading to throw out that these deer are coming from parkland that anyone can hunt. I won't argue that some don't as I don't hunt with these guys and certainly dont have the time to spend in the woods as those guys apparently do, but I also know that that a bunch also come from private lots, some of which but up to the Park.

Question for you- did Scotts record and Bill Browns non typical deer come out of the park?

regardless of where - It's not easy - and you hit it on the head - time in the woods - and the place your at.

You didnt ruffle any feathers. And the answer to your question is, no but scott's deer did spent most of his time in a park (not open to hunting) and Bill's deer was in a large tract of woods that is not posted on three sides.

I agree with you to a point, but the deer must be there first, or no matter how "good" a hunter one is, you will not see them. We have some very good hunters here too that just don't kill deer like that because there are not many of them here.

The single biggest factor in those guys killing those bucks is location. Monmouth County produces big deer because there are alot of sanctuaries for them to get old. Yes, they do end up walking across huntable park land, but they have sanctuaries that give them protection most of the time. Those sanctuaries can be closed park land, small lots amidst developments, industrial park land that cannot be hutned, or whatever. We have a few spots like that, but for the most part, all the land is huntable, and hunted hard, so deer just don't get that big.

We have had some monsters killed, but most of them came from within walking distance of areas closed to hunting, and that's where the good hunters go to find them.

I'm not saying your guys aren't good hunters...I'm sure they're some of the best, but send them down here and they absolutely will not kill deer like that. Location, location, location!

"NOTE ON SHORTSTAY"
Here is a guy that hunts on priviate property, has put out over $500.00 worth of corn ,that he puts out every day, and has only shot a squirrel. Can't figure that out. Good luck Gary.

IF A525 passes - the only people taking monster buck's or any game in NJ whatsoever will be in lab coats with dart guns.

Rich - this bill will kill your business.

I was lucky to shoot a nice one my self in 2003 with the bow and have seen some big ones since. They are out there!
