kah1993= I was told by a guy that back in the 1930's, they released a bunch of deer in monmouth county that were brought in from Missouri.

I've heard the same "rumor", and have never been able to substantiate or disprove it. It is amazing how something like that gets "roots" and can't be proven.

I think that deer from PA and maybe Michigan were released at one point in NJ but down near the Pine Barrens.  So, there coudl be a little truth to the rumor but those deer do have that "look" of a big midwestern buck.

My in-laws live off New Bedford Road/Allaire Road. Is there any local hunting or is it very competitive to secure a spot?  My father-in-law knows a ton of people but he is not a hunter so is not askign the "right" questions when he meets someone...

There have been some very nice bucks taken within a 300 yd. circle of that inersection, mostly west of it. It is nearly impossible to get permission and even if you could, I guaranty you still wouldn't be in legal discharge distance at any point, so one's hunting ethics would come into play.

I second that, and if you get a bind, don't mention Rich's or my name.

I hear ya!  The in-laws live in a typical Mcmansion development on Troy Drive.  There is a green area with a creek behind them and I have seen some deer and turkeys back in there. Looks like some huntable areas off Allaire but could be green acres and such. As the spring comes I will spend more time down there to "poke" around.

Troy Dr. wasn't even there when I lived in Wall, the old farm house was still there, but it had been abandoned, awaiting development. Try looking around Allaire.

Houndawg--my in-laws actually live on the lot where the old farm house stood. It is the best lot with the nice trees/etc/2acres. They paid $375,000 back in 2000 and now it's probably worth $700,000 plus. At least the town is trying to save some land.

PS--we go to Wall Speedway alot in the summer.
