Awesome hunt tonight. Here's how it plays out...oh and before I tease too much, it was not me that shot, and I won't say who just yet, but a nice buck is down!

------
So my one buddy called to say the bucks were moving like crazy and I should meet him. I was going to hunt with someone else, so I asked them if they wanted to go there instead. Same zone, so hell yeah! Always more fun to hunt with friends!

Once there, we tried rattling and calling in one spot. About a half hour after the calling. I see a monster about 200 yards away, coming our way. Wind is perfect.

About ten minutes later, I see it going back the way it came. Not sure why.

Then I spot another big buck coming towards us way off. He zigs back and forth and then disappears into a thicker area in front of us.

I then see another buck go into the thicket, but then go back out.

Then another one goes in and stays.

At this point I realize it's time to make a move.

Knowing the property the best, I helped coordinate a stalk between the other two guys.

We had a good cross wind, and the wind was heavy enough to cover some noise and movement.

I stalked with ______ part of the way, then stayed up on a hillside and out of the way. This way I could watch to see if the bucks tried to leave somewhere else.

I suggested that  ______ go in another direction around the downwind side and setup to cover the best escape route.

As ________ stalked, a smaller buck did catch his wind. It busted out to _______. It came right by him and _______ could have shot the smaller buck, but passed it.

The smaller buck spooking caught the big bucks attention and _______ took advantage and hustled into a better position. Somehow it worked out perfectly because....

....He ended up shooting the big buck at 3 FEET!!!!  YES ONE YARD!!!!

About a 200 yard stalk from the spot I first saw him from, to the spot where he zapped him.

I watched the buck go down within 30 yards of me! In total it went about 60 yards.

I saw it come in, get lightheaded, collapse. Regain its feet and go about 5 more feet! DONE! BUCK DOWN!!!

I was so pumped just to have witnessed the whole hunt!! It was simply awesome. Everyone did their part perfectly!

I'm sure you'll see photos of it soon when the killer posts them!

The butcher thought it was probably over 180#'s, but he's going to weigh it to be sure.

About a 19"-20" inside spread. 8 points. Good mass and a HUGE neck and chest!

Definitely a big bodied mature shooter buck! Just awesome!!!!

He stunk so bad too...I still smell like rutting buck. I can't get the stink out of my nose! But....it smells like....sweet success!

Not likely...I bet the waitress at the diner could smell the stank of rut on us.

I should have rubbed my clothes all over it and gone hunting tomorrow!

The "unofficial pic" is above Tim.

Butcher says it was 191 pounds field dressed...

I knew it felt heavy when helping drag and trying to lift it into the truck!

Wow..That is one hell of a story there, Matty...

I woudl have paid a steep price to have been able to take part in that, and, like you said, just witness everything unfold.

Sounds like you guys drafted a hasty plan with very little time to do so, and, you did it perfectly.

Thanks for sharing, cant wait to see more photos.

Great buck, too !!

OK Gang, time to fill in the blanks!  Matty, dude, you did such an amazing job on the narrative, thanks for saving me the effort!

I stalked with Tom part of the way, then stayed up on a hillside and out of the way. This way I could watch to see if the bucks tried to leave somewhere else.

I suggested that Ryan go in another direction around the downwind side and setup to cover the best escape route.

As Tom stalked, a smaller buck did catch his wind. It busted out to Ryan. It came right by him and Ryan could have shot the smaller buck, but passed it.

The smaller buck spooking caught the big bucks attention and Tom took advantage and hustled into a better position. Somehow it worked out perfectly because....

....He ended up shooting the big buck at 3 FEET!!!!  YES ONE YARD!!!!

I have to tell you this was absolutely the most exciting hunt of my life! All the environmental factors were in my favor and with Matty in my corner I had to pull it off.  At one point - when there was nothing but one thick bush between me and the deer, and I, crouched down low with my bow drawn for nearly two minutes, was eyeing the rack sticking above the brush, I thought my heart was going to pop right out of my chest! It was only as he put his head down and passed through the brush three feet away from me an into my shooting window that I finally knew he was mine! This was the first deer I ever shot with my Switchback XT that was not a pass through.  The arrow took out both lungs but lodged in the far shoulder.  The blood trail looked like it was applied with a spray gun and I knew he wouldnt go far! My second deer in 9 days taken on the ground within 5 feet!  I may have to get rid of my stands!

Matty, I cant thank you enough for all your companionship and guidance - you're the best!  Ryan, thanks a million for helping to drag this beast out!!!
