New York wildlife pathologist Ward Stone said he is familiar with the black market trade in animal parts, such as deer antlers, but also offered alternate reasons.

"Sometimes kids, young adults, do these things. They want to shoot something then don't know what to do with the bodies," he said. "And you have trophy hunters, just looking for antlers."

Ward Stone should shut his gob.  That statement is entirely misleading.  Anyone who is "just looking for antlers" is NOT a hunter of ANY kind.

That's bullshit.  It's more than a dozen deer.  Poachers or my bet would be someone contracted by the state to remove roadkill trying to get by the cheap way.

I hope you were referring to his statement and not my comment.

They are not hunters........they are poachers and killers, nothing more
This is how we as hunters get a bad name. They should not be grouping ethical hunters who do not let an animal go to waste with poachers. It is not right and not accurate

More likely low bidder contract dead deer pick up people. Fuel for the incinerator is to high!

i realize the post is a couple of months old, but years back, on opening day of trout season I found a pile of deer shot and scalped in Millington.  I totally forgot about that until now, or more like I tried to forget about it I guess...I should have reported it but for whatever reason I failed to.  I think I am going to check it out again soon...

Most towns pick up deer and have a dump site for them, usually on township land or a DPW Yard. The State doesn't hire contractors no more to pick up deer. Years ago they would bring deer to the tiger lady, for them to have food, but the DEP Nazi eventually drove her out too!
