flinger,
not sure if i understand this correctly, but, corn pellets. I use a pellet stove that burns both corn (kernels) and wood pellets that I buy from Agway, so they actually make a pellet that's corn?

maybe not, I bought a pellett stove and was told to use corn in it. it burns better and cleaner. I didnt think they ment regular corn but I have no experience in it at all. I just bought the stove, it didnt even get delivered yet. I thought it would be a corn pellett like the wood pellett but you would know better than me __________________ New baby girl born Nov 1st!!!!!

I mix 50/50 in my pellet stove, Most pellet stoves are not designed to burn corn. Corn produces Clinkers, Which a stove thats meant to burn corn has an auger in the firepot to break-up clinkers. I usually just use a screwdriver and break mine up, But remember I'm also burning 50/50 mix. Hopefully this will help you out a bit. __________________ "Let em GO and They will Grow" (When I grow up can I hunt with LITTLELOU !!!!!!!)

From my experience with burning corn I've noticed the stove needs cleaning more frequently and the ash build-up needs to be scraped.
In addition, you would want to burn corn that is totally dry, and clean or else the auger will get jammed with those pieces of corn stalk. I bought 1-Ton last year from agway but will not buy it any more. We also found that there were a type of moth that emerged from the corn and they started being a pain in arss. Ordered 4-Tons of pellets a month ago and still haven't received them. |

corn holds moisture so make sure they are really dry before using. If Not you can build up sutt that will mess up your burner. when you have a fire going take some corn put some in a pan and lay it near the stove to dry them out better.. You'll find you'll get better heat and wont use up so much. __________________ Quote: Hunting is My Heart & Soul, Without it. I'm just a empty shell. |

Sounds good....Maybe I will try 50/50 for now and see what is more cost effective. It seems like some people either love the burning corn idea or hate it. Im gona have to give it a try and see what happends. __________________ New baby girl born Nov 1st!!!!!

So far this year Agway is cheaper than Tractor Supply. If you could buy large bulk in big bags, a place up in Vermont sells it for $105 a ton, with a minimum of 50 tons, that's alot of pellet.
Don't wait, I locked in my price buy pre-paying for the 4 tons I'll use this year, I'll gurantee the price will climb from the current $265 a ton to who knows what. I was able to heat my house which is a normal sized ranch with my pellet stove last year for around $700, I don't put the oil burner on for nothing anymore. |
