NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / General Comments & Information / Tree Stand Problem
Posted:  19 Aug 2008 6:52 PM
I found the perfect tree along a perfect trail to hang my stand.  After screwing in all the steps and climbing up to the top with the stand, I realized the strap does not fit around the tree, it is about 3 inches too short.  The stand is a Gorilla/King Kong strap on.  This is the only tree in the area that will work for a stand.  I'm thinking about cutting the strap off the stand and putting on a chain with 2 "s" hooks.  If anyone has ever modified a stand like this or has any suggestions of what I can do, it would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the store and buy a couple of ratchet straps, they work great.

I do the ratchet also, and even when I use the strap on the stand, I still put a ratchet strap on the lower part of the stand, that way it can`t kick out when you go to step on to it.

Yup, rachet strap...I like the larger ratchet straps. The ting nylon straps are strong, but the larger the strap- more peace of mind while hanging 30' above the ground.....

Chain is not so great for the tree so like most have said, the ratchet straps would work best. You can get them at Dick's or at any truck or auto parts store. You can even choose your color usually! :P

Standard Home Depot black ratchet straps 10' long and 2" wide rated to 600lbs. They cost about $7.00 a strap. I change every strap out annually-never re-using the old ones. I also use two straps per stand(one at the seat, and one at the base).

Good luck with your location

Rachet straps.  Droptine249 helps me hang all of my stands and I have to say the rachet straps are the ticket.
