NJ Hunter / New Jersey Hunting / Classifieds (Free) / reasonable muzzleloader wanted.
Posted:  19 Aug 2008 4:48 PM
I'm an avid bow hunter but I'm thinking I want to start getting into muzzleloader. I figure it'll give me more days in the woods..
I dont have the cash right now to buy something higher end like a t/c encore, but want to get something somewhat decent to start shooting. More for practice loading, etc...
If you have something reasonable or can recommend something i'd appreciate it.
I was up at cabelas and saw some decent guns for very little money but I dont know much about them.
i have my FID and matching DL.

Thanks,

Dave

I bought a Knight a few years ago for under $300 with a scope and I have to say I am very pleased with it.

At the range I have consistently shot as well or better than two of my hunting buddies.  One has a TC and the other a CVA.

Best investment I made that year.

PS - there's a Gander Mtn in Middletown, NY - not NJ - and they usually have a good number of used guns for sale.  Might want to check them out.  My brother got his CVA from there for $225.

I bought a CVA Buckhorn for my son last year and it is a tack driver.  Just saw them yesterday at Walmart in PA for $119.  I use upon occasion a CVA Hunterbolt that came with a .45 and .50 cal barrel and it too is a tack driver with them both.  Use open sights on both but can use a scope.

I still prefer and use most of the time my Euroarms Enfield P-58 percusion in .58 cal.  ...  about $550 most places.

I have many many muzzleloader and can assure you that cost does not equal performance.  If it feels good in your hands and on your shoulder it may be the gun for you.

Why don't you get started on the right foot and look for a real muzzleloader like a T/C Hawken or Renegade.

Dave, I have a older cva hunter bolt that still shoots good.I do not use anymore.I would sell the gun with a whole can of RS pyrodex and powerbelt bullets.I'll sell to you for $80.00. Must have FID.  If interested email i live in hillsborough.

I had a cva that shot great, killed alot of deer with it. Then the trigger started acting funny and actually fired all by itself. Could have killed someone! Sent it back and they replaced the trigger but now I'm nervous handling that thing. I have a Marlin 54 that shoots great and a tc omega that is a tack driver.
Just look for a sale and a quality company

Go to Dunkleburgers in stroudburg, there are a few affordable inlines on the used rack due to PA only being flintlock they buy them and sell them when they don't get used much..

yeah, but not many people do it. They buy them to come to Jersey but after the novelty wears off they sell them cheap..

dave, you might have met jimmy at our club picnic, the one with the broken leg....

i know he just got a new smokepole, so i called him and asked if he wanted to sell his previous one, he said he wants to keep it like as a back up, but if you wanna use it / bowwor it for the season you can. it needs a scope, he took it and put it on his new gun...

so let me know, he said if you get a scope and wanna play with it this year you can... jimmy is a great guy.....
