Are you north, central or south?? There's plenty of spots I can put you on that will give you multiple opportunity at does and small bucks during the season

Not a doe yet red man. Just concentrate on a doe first. After the first one they seem to fall in place until one day your just a killer.

Well heres the most important thing next you have to get through is the wing and dings and sleepless nights and blood trails of all sorts. Yours, your buddys, your buddys buddys, reading about the trail searchs on here and then trials and judgements by others.

Learning how to read the hit and your arrow.

Most important is what did the animal do after the shot and what does your arrow tell you so you have to hunt your arrow first after it leaves the release.

Red...if you want to come out for a doe hunt this season- let me know. I'd be honored to put you on some deer.

I lost the first deer I ever shot. It was my first day in the woods, ever. Opening day. 18 yard shot. I sent the arrow flying. Looked like a good hit. I think I bumped her by getting down to look, too early.

I felt horrible ,

Best of luck to you.

Red,

I can relate to your frustration as I am new to hunting myself. I consider myself very lucky because this is my third fall hunting deer and I was fortunate enough to harvest a young doe my first year and a big, mature doe on opening afternoon last year.

I do realize, however, that I am probably the exception to the rule. My good friend, who was responsible for turning me on to hunting, went 6 straight seasons without a bow kill. Now he uses his knowledge and field experience to help me find and take deer and I am grateful to him for that.

My first deer was a little doe and I was so excited to see her coming towards my stand, I actually did  not see that she still had a few spots on her hind legs. I shot and she ran off into the beans, stood their for about 5 minutes and then slowly walked into the woods. It was getting dark now and I could have sworn that I missed her. When I finally got down, my friend came over and we looked at the arrow, which only had a little blood on it. I hit her a bit back in the kidney and when I realized it, I immediately felt sick to my stomach. We decided to back out and when we came back the following day to look, she lay dead no more than a few yards from where I saw her enter the woods.

My doe harvest last year was much different. My confidence was higher now because I had my first kill and I knew I needed a doe first (early season) so I could get my buck tag. After watching fawns play around for an hour or more, I saw her come around the corner. She was no doubt coming to collect her babies and when I shot, I heard a loud crack. She plopped down right where I hit her and I was so proud.

This year, for the first time, I am going to do a considerable amount of public land hunting so my results may vary. We shall see.

Haven't taken one yet.  Had a shot about 4 years ago (low, mis-judged range....buck fever).

My biggest problem is scouting.  I just don't do enough of it to really know the land I hunt (been hunting where I'm at now about 5 years).

But hey, I like being outside (and not at work) just the same.  To paraphrase the old adage "A bad day of hunting is still better than a good day at work".

i just want to wish all who hasnt gotten one goodluck, and to sat get ready for an unbelievable experience.

Good luck and the Great Spirit will look down you & when the time is right He will give you a deer.

Practice, pick a spot and burn a hole in one hair on the animals chest, wait for the right close shot, stay calm and smooth release follow through.

Don't rush a shot and tell yourself I got to get a deer because that will put more presure on you and screw your head up. Don't let anyone tell you any nonsence about not getting a deer yet to pressure you, It will happen the more your out and in the zone the oppertunity will come so try to be patient and enjoy every moment out there. You won't become a killer over night.

Learn woodsmanship and pay attention to your surroundings. Learn how to get yourself in the shot oppertunitys and remeber what worked and what didn't.

Hunt where the deer are is the only way to run into them so don't spend endless days alone in the woods. If your not on them go find them and reset up. Don't molest them because a deer can't tolerate that.

Each time you go to a stand that was unproductive you educate the animals more to your surroundings.

What's a matter master woodsmen you have no ideas on how to help these younger hunters.

You all have big mouths when it comes to hearing preaching and teaching so put your knowleage where it can help them if you can teach!

Sorry younger hunters theres some on here that needs a knowleage shot or wake up call.

I only got one last fall.  I usually get 1 or 2, but have had a few years where I got skunked.  My longest drought was like 5 years.  I still hunt hard so it's not like I didn't get out as much, just didn't see deer or didn't have a good shot to take.

Heck, it's better than being at home and doing chores and coaching kid's soccer!
