These are from our trail cam in Gloucester County. My buddy and I just put it out last week (no bait) and were delighted to see what was passing by on the farm.

ub is right. Mum is the word that I get every time I try to inquire about where to hunt. Land is so scarce in Southern NJ (or at least in Gloucester County) that everyone tries to keep to themselves.

As you can imagine, this has been the most frustrating part of my new hunting career. I am meeting new people and experiencing new places but would love to find some new friends that could teach me some things.

Right now I feel pretty fortunate in that I can hunt at three different private places. One is a farm in Franklinville. My good friend knows the owner and we basically have the run of the farm from a hunting perspective because the land owner does not hunt.

Another place is in Barnsboro, where my same buddy grew up hunting behind a private residence. Not much woods but the land owner keeps the deer fed year round so some think it would be like shooting fish in a barrel. I beg to differ. The deer are smart. They have to be to live in such a populated area. They come out to eat for sure, but not until every last star is perched in the sky. :P

Finally, I just got turned on to a new place in Swedesboro where another buddy's step dad took me turkey hunting this spring. He works with the lady who owns the land and she said I could hunt deer there if I want. Funny, when we were turkey hunting we saw more deer than birds.

finding good land is tough, but anywere in the state.

we have some good bucks around, but no body talks.
i don't talk about what i see, some know were i hunt. keeping tresspassers out is tough, real tough when the fields look like a realtree show at dusk.

good luck to you.

you said no bait!  There's a whole field of it in the back ground of your first picture.

Nice bucks.

Well, we all know deer are lazy bastards. So, what I really meant is that I didn't give them their stripped corn yet. They still have to do all the work.

ub,

The problem in Gloucester County is that too many hunters are willing to shoot bucks like these. They do not have any size/age standards and even with the state mandates in some zones that a buck must have at least three points on one side, bucks in this area are never given the opportunity to mature.

A good friend of mine is a perfect example. Every year he goes out hunting with his cousins and they come back with a truck full of baby deer. It makes me sick and we always argue about it. But when I sit back and reflect on it later, it always occurs to me that they take what they can get. Sure, they could sit the entire time waiting for an old buck but we all know it just ain't in the cards.

I do like the 3-point rule in Zone 35 though. At least it helps a little bit and I have been seeing some bigger bucks this year and last.

on the farm i hunt we have ar's, but we  are in 25.

there is a lot of little buck shooting going on. guys won't put in the time to let the little guys walk and hope for a bigger deer. old habits die hard.

i have guys that hunt right on the property line one me. they shoot whatever comes out. it's tough to pass small 8 pts all season, then find out these guys took two spikes. but it's not my property, can't say anything.

I see your point, ub. I guess it just bothers me when guys shoot the small ones just because it is something to do. Yes, deer hunting is hard but that doesn't mean you have to shoot everything and anything that walks out.
