Does anyone know of a good, but well priced varmint rifle scope.  Best bang for the buck.

When you say well priced what exactly do you mean? what price range are you looking in?  I could give my opinions on a few I've used but I'd like to know what price range you are considering first.  Also what magnifaction range are you looking for?

I'd be willing to spend up to maybe $250-300.  Variable up to maybe 12-14 power.  I discovered a mueller online.

What do you think of this one?  I'm looking to get a savage 12bvss .22-250 so I'll need a scope along with it.

I've never used a mueller but I've heard some good reports on them.  Good choice on the rifle, I have one in 223 and its a tack driver, its wearing a leupold vx II 4-12x40AO which is a little above the price you stated.  In that price range the only scopes I've used with success are a bushnell trophy, bushnell 3200, burris fullfield 2, and swift premium.  The bushnell trophy I have is a good scope but it is not the same as the current production ones.  The latest ones I've seen aren't nearly as clear so unless you come across an older one I would scratch that off the list.  The 3200 and burris are nice scopes and can be found in higher magnification ranges (3-12 for the 3200, and 4.5-14 on the burris) on sale in your price range or just a few bucks over.  The swift is a great scope for the $$.  I have a few 4-12x40's and 2 6-18x40's and they are all good scopes that will fit your budget.  Another choice that I don't own but have used are the nikon monarchs but they will come in a little above your price as well.  Its hard to buy good glass with high magnification for $300.  Once you get to 12x and above the price really jumps.

If you are interested in the burris http://www.natchezss.com/  usually has them on sale they also have deals where you get a free GPS or spotting scope when you buy a fullfield 2

Thanks beaverman.  I'll definitely take heed to you're advice.  My varmint hunting as of now is mainly for chucks, and relatively close range, so I don't need too much magnification but I'm thinking ahead for the future so it may be wise for me to invest in a higher power scope right now.  Where did you get your savage?  I was looking at Cabelas.  The .22-250 12BVSS laminated stock is $739 but with that sale they run, it would be $100 off.

I bought mine from a distributor and had a local dealer transfer it for me.  It was a couple years ago so the prices have changed but I paid $550 for mine before NICS and a $15 dealer transfer fee.  So it was $580 out the door.  It seems like they have gone up $50-75 since I got mine so your sale price of $639 would be pretty good.

You can get a nice nikon in that price range or bushnell elite. Since varmint hunting is not done in nasty weather and rifle does not have that much recoil you really don't need to spend a ton of money on a scope. I have bushnell's on my varmint guns and they drive tacks.. I have a 6-18 power with adjustable objective bushnell that cost around 150.00 and drives tacks on the 22-250
