I use copper solids they work and shoot great. try a few different slugs, some of the cheaper slugs shoot out of my gun just as accurate as big dollar sabots. I have mossberg 835 with a fully rifled barrel. if not sighted in yet get it bore sighted first, I didn't and I burnt up a lot of money sighting in my gun the first time.

Wichester Superx 2 3/4 inch 1 oz slugs awesome out of a Mossberg 500 rully rifled barrel with a Redfield Widefield 4x scope. Great set up and very affordable way to hunt many types of game.  I bought the Mossberg at Kmart in 1990. It was on sale for 189 dollars with three chokes I then bought a fully rifled barrel for it for like 140 bucks and a Redfield widefield scope for 160. WIth this set up I can hunt just about anything.

My only Rifled Hastings barrel is 20 ga, and 7/8 oz Lightfield Hybrid sabots are (were) the most accurate out of it.

Good luck.

i've been using lightfield hybrid slugs for about 20 years now. they're very accurate out of any gun i've ever shot them out of and in my opinion they're the quickest killing slug made. i've shot literally dozens of deer with them and only had a couple that didn't drop within a couple of yards and those dropped no more than about 30 or 40 yards, no bs. very few passthroughs too which means all energy is used up inside the deer. i buy them by the case which lasts awhile. sight them in to hit 2 inches high at 50 yds and you'll be good to go out to about 125 yds. about 15 years ago i was on a bow hunt in new brunswick for black bear when a limb on my hoyt prohunter delaminated (end of bowhunt). i continued to hunt with my slug gun using lightfields and i shot a 300 lb bear at a distance of 40 yds. you know how far it ran after the shot? it didn't, it just flopped right over and kick a couple of times. very clean and humane.

Since they come in boxes of 5, 5 is minimum. However, I like to verify a good group. So, I would shoot the box of 5, and check for a good group for the distance you are sighting in for. If it groups well, shoot another box of 5. Make good notes on your target ... label the load, mark the two groups, how did the recoil feel?, etc etc. If that first box of 5 does not group well, do not shoot the second box of that slug, and move on to a different slug and a new target paper.

Take your time. Do it over time. Don't kill yourself. Even though you feel you can take the recoil, slugs are heavy loads and you may not even realize that you're starting to flinch a bit.

Just my 2 cents.
Good luck.

If they shoot out of it, my friend had a problem getting anything to shoot good out of his hastings barrel. Barnes bullets are AWESOME!

My Hastings doesn't shoot the lighter, faster sabots at all. I did best with Brenneke K.O. and the slugs made by Hastings. Lightfields and Buckhammers were a close second.

Barnes expanders are great to use. Note a few years back Hastings but out a bulletin that they were having some problems with Remington Copper solids shot out of their barrels. They didn't want anyone shooting Rem. Copper Sol. shot from their barrels because of potential injuries or damage to the barrel.
