14 is the correct answer..
10-13 need to hunt under supervision of an adult... 14-15 can hunt on your own but still eligible for the Youth Hunting License... __________________ |

Quote: This is accurate, but in conflict with NJ gun laws that prohibit someone under the age of 18 to possess a firearm unless under the direct supervision of an adult.
14-15 can hunt on your own but still eligible for the Youth Hunting License... Don't know what would happen if your 16 year old was jhunting with a shotgun without an adult present, and a hardnosed cop wanted to make trouble
Just another way NJ makes it to confusing ![]() __________________ Support the N.J.O.A. and the "Littel Amendment" An amendment to the New Jersey State Constitution that Guarantees the right to hunt, trap, and fish in New JerseyNew Jersey Outdoor Alliance

My take is under adult supervision is within a reasonable distance that you can prevent a tragedy from happening. Like side by side , a few feet away if on the ground, next to each other if in a tree. You get the picture. Close enough to grab the gun incase of an incident. __________________ The 4 seasons - Almost Summer, Summer, Still Summer and Hunting Season

My son is almost 16 now,but he always had his own stand
while bowhunting.Last year he wanted to start moving further away from me.I wasn't sure of the law,so I kept him around 50-100 yards.I figured he could yell if he needed me. |

Quote: No problem with a bow. My daughter has been hunting on and off on her own with the bow since she turned 14. Generally, we try and set up in travel corridors and each of us take a side so the entire choke point is covered. We are usually within 200 yards of each other, but occassionaly hunt the same stand.
but with bow cant have a problem can you?? The same is suppose dto be true for gun hunting, but the gun laws do not coincide with the hunting laws. So technically you can be in compliance with the hunting law, but in violation of the gun law. It's realy stupid! __________________ Support the N.J.O.A. and the "Littel Amendment" An amendment to the New Jersey State Constitution that Guarantees the right to hunt, trap, and fish in New JerseyNew Jersey Outdoor Alliance

Hey guys, this is my nephew as you can see he's alittle pumped up for the season. Trust me he will be only (max) 100yrds from me or right below in the tree. I going to try and video tape his first few hunts on tape. Yes uncle (Capt Joe) has been scouting glass fields and fine turning some spots for opening day.. Now between the food plots, feeders and mineral station m luck needs to shine on us in a few weeks.
Capt. Joe Ps.. straight from NJF&G northern office 14 yrs old can hunt alone... |

The hunting digest says "Direct Supervision" but does not define what that means. The law is more vague, 23:3-3 (Youth hunting license) says "when accomanied by a holder, above 21 years of age".
Personally, I always kept my sons right next to me within wispering distance until I felt comfortable that they could safely handle a gun or bow on their own and make a good shot. They were always within my sight until they were about 13 or 14. __________________ "To be unarmed and therefore helpless in the face of evil is irresponsible and in fact complicit to said evil.
