Heres a link.

I love this.

• Bear cubs stay with their mother until they are two years old. Contrary to common belief, mother Black bears do not defend their cubs. Defending cubs is a Grizzly bear trait.

Just send the wife out with a watergun and you'll be fine.  This was taken from their "what do I do if I see a bear" PDF.

Couldn't use of supersoaker guns and pepper spray be considered forms of animal cruelty?

I thought according to the B.E.A.R folks that bears are harmless, why the need for force to shoo them away? Is it a good idea to use a supersoaker on a sow when she is with her cubs - what will a water gun do should the sow feel her cubs are threatened?

Only in NJ could a wonderful creature like a bear be allowed to become vermin.

What they say is;

New Jersey’s bear population was all but wiped out by hunting in the 70’s.

What the truth is;

New Jersey's bear population was all but wiped out by the 1950's. Regulated hunting in the 1960's prompted the New Jersey Division of Fish and Game to protect bears by suspending bear hunting in the 1970's because of their low population numbers.

Hunting has no effect on bear control??

Bang = dead bear and it was controlled forever.....

What part of that really needs to be explained to them?

NJ F&W's hidden agenda

The NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife exists to serve hunting interests. By promoting fear of bears, they lay the groundwork for future hunts.

The excuse for any argument for bear hunting involves fear. The pro-hunting forces in the Division of Fish & Wildlife understand this. And their actions promote fear, rather than understanding, of black bears. And this fear—coupled with hunters’ passion for killing—is the basis for their bear hunting argument.

When game officers shoot "nuisance" bears, they enforce the myth that bears are dangerous. Yet the bears they target are being killed for knocking over trash, emptying birdfeeders, and lapping up honey from beehives. On rare occasions, when home (or garage) entry is involved, bears are accused of "break ins." But F&W fails to address the true source of the problem: a homeowner who did not bearproof their property.

In New Jersey, it is illegal to feed bears—intentionally or through improperly stored garbage. But F&W seldom enforces this law. Instead, they set traps on the homeowner's property. They claim the traps are non-lethal—and they are—until the F&W officers arrive and shoot the bear. The reality is, that F&W disregards the feeding ban—and then blames the bear—as creating "nuisance" bears is another tool of the hunter-dominated Division of Fish & Wildlife.

They inflate population statistics. Need population info, ours and theirs.........They encourage residents to contact them, regarding bears. Whether the homeowner calls to complain or to ask a question, the call is logged as a nuisance complaint. This manipulated data is further compromised, as 10 calls about one bear are recorded as 10 complaints. F&W then uses these complaints to justify a bear hunt.

At times, F&W relocates bears. We suspect that when bears end up in urban areas, that it is F&W who intentionally transported them there, to incite fear. When such incidents are reported in the media, it further fuels fear.

F&W employees—who should be non-biased—argue publicly in favor of black bear hunting and align themselves with hunters. They are essentially a state-sanctioned hunting organization.

The Division doesn't have a black bear management plan; they have an agenda. With each "complaint" they log, with each homeowner not fined for violating the feeding law, and with each bear they publicly shoot—they lay the groundwork for another bear hunt. And it’s our job not to let this happen.

Please join us today...and be a voice for responsible government...and for those who can’t speak for themselves.

OMG what butt-whipes.  lies lies lies.  who had the hidden agenda?

Of course that little cub is going to run .I would like to see them go and shoot a water gun at a 500lb BRUIN!!!!

All in all nearly every argument they make is hearsay, unsupported by statisics or outright lies. Ulimately their true anti hunting agenda shows, the save the bears position is only a smoke screen. Just another anti hunting group.

The JAAH Group.

Guess the Black bear has passed up the Bison as north america's largest land mammal. I guess I missed the memo on that one.

As for Black bear sows not defending thier cubs, I wonder where they got that non-sense, I guess I got chaced off by a grizzly sow two years ago when I inadvertedly got between a sow and cubs.

I thought grizzly's didn't live in NJ. guess I better let some one know.

As for slow reproduction, They seem to be nunder the mistaken belife that all sows breed every two years at once and that some seasons see no cubs at all. Obviously not true.

The natural average is something like 2-3 cubs per sow, yet here in NJ. the average is more like 3-4 with 5 cubs not uncommon.

Likewise the servival rate in other states is some where around 40-50% witch would be in keeping with a natural balence.

Here in the great state of New Jersey that rate is nearly 98%, Not so slow as one might think.

People who live in "Bear contry" live with the threat of a 500lb omnivor breaking into thier home and raiding the house for food.

To think that black bears are harmless is lunicy!

One only needs to read the paper to see that bears in NJ are a real threat to public safty, and that ANY,ANYBear management plan cannot be called truly comprhensive if it excludes regulated hunting as a ligitamate means of population control.
